Water v low and strong sunshine with some rising fish. Hard to get close to the deeper channels and pools without spooking. Some fish rising. Really nice beat. To get to water safely, walk 50 metres up the path, don't descend by the bridge.

Lots of fly life late on, missed one take and lost another. A lot of activity was on the far bank which I struggled to reach. As only my second fishing trip this season I would read nothing into my lack of results! It is a stunning stretch of water with plenty of variety and I will certainly return when I'm back in the area. I did follow the advice of previous reports and brought a wading staff which even with the river lower I felt much more comfortable, with the water higher I would think one was essential.

So took my son out fishing the Usk for the first time, so we effectively shared a rod, had a fabulous few hours. Had to dodge the holiday makers later in the morning / day, but really no problem with this. Caught on nymph fished french style in pocket water. Great picture with my son having caught an 18inch Usk Gold. If you want a secluded beat avoid this on sunny school holiday days and especially bank holidays!

This beat always lives up to my expectation, I have fished several beat in Usk and this beat is one of the best in my opinion. I thoroughly enjoyed fishing this beat although I only managed to fish half a day. The river was a bit low compared to my previous visit but it allowed me to wade and fish the other side of the bank which is where I caught most of the fish. I managed to catch 17 lovely brownies all between 12" to 20" on a home tied GRHE. The river is extremely slippery and I strongly advise using a wading staff. Looking forward to my next visit.

Great day at the river. Lost count of fish caught. Was about 15 or more. Lovely beat with lot of riffles which is exactly what I was planning on fishing today due to hot weather. All fish caught on GRHE and black evil weevil. Definitely one of the favourite beats on my list.

Beautiful day, clear and sunny. Water was unexpectedly high and trout as shy as usual. Good hatch of blue/green duns in late afternoon. Few fish on dry, rest nymph.

A beat with every type of trout water all in a doable length with an amazing head of largely uncatchable fish. 30 degree heat and full sun on low water taught this angler a lesson. Namely, one can't be fine, small and far off enough. The evening rise evened the odds somewhat.

Eight fish caught and released, all of them on dry fly in the afternoon during a green flying ant hatch. River in excellent conditions for dry fly fishing.

Late afternoon start around 4.30, perfect trout conditions.. 22 degrees slight cloud, lovely height and colour. fished up through the flats saw plenty but no takers, later worked down from the top of the beat taking one in the corner pool and then another in Pwll Daffi both 12" on small copper hairs ear. Lots of fish activity several 2lb+ jumping about, beautiful spot.. just me and the heron at the end. Will return!

Surprisingly good day for August. Perhaps the rain earlier in the week helped. Good water levels and clear. 3 good sized fish hooked in the flats above the bridge. 2 freed themselves before reaching the net. A nice 13"wbt made it into the net. Duo proved effective with the nymph doing the business. Safely released. Heavy hatch going on most of the day. Mostly small olives, but some blues; although the fish were not going mad for them. A few fish rising higher up the beat but spooked as soon as an approach was made. A couple of good views of a Kingfisher completed a very pleasant day.
