Lovely looking water with lots of inviting runs. Fish rising and insects hatching in morning period but these tailed off later in the day. Rises tended to be 'oncers' and often splashy.
Fish caught on Hares Ears Klink and Parachute Adams. One small brown caught on Hares Ear Nymph.
An interesting but challenging day with steadily rising fish not in evidence. Largest fish 1lb.

After a really slow start to the season the river Usk was alive today, I was lucky enough to be Guiding two very good anglers, one of whom is and an England international river team member. The morning was spent fishing nymphs in the streamy runs and pockets at the bottom of the beat. While the middle of the day was spent dry fly fishing in the flats both top and bottom of the beat. Both methods produce good fish but the best fish of the day came from a deep packet in the middle of the beat. This Fish can be seen on the new Wye and Usk Passport Facebook page. The fish were some what picky while rising to the dry and we could only tempt them on a large quill bodied olive. www.frankwilliamsflyfishing.co.uk.

I caught a lovely 1lb brown trout on the dry fly (yellow klinkhammer) at about 2.30pm, 200yards up from the bridge and released it back. My husband caught 2.6lbs brown trout with a beadhead pheasant tail at about 4pm, half way up the beat (by the waterfall pool). Fantastic afternoon.

2 small trout cuaght - 1 x 1.5 pound on dry and smaller one of 3/4 pound on a surface fished wet. Conditions on 1 of the days was good but high river levels later in the week made fishing difficult/impossible.

Fished this on the 7th and 9th of May 2013 - Blanked but enjoyed. It rained on the 9th. Although no fish caught, I still enjoyed fishing these beautiful scenic waters.

Two rods fished with all four fish falling to nymphs despite a few sporadic moments of surface activity when the sun came out. Really cold strong wind blowing downstream didn't help presentation but still couldn't ruin the day on such a lovely beat. Will be back when warmer weather finally arrives.

I love this beat. The upper stretch is classic salmon water, with deep glacial trenches and fast water over rocks. Shame there were no salmon! There were three trout rising, of which I caught one of 1lb in weight. The weather forecast was it's usual inaccurate self!

First trip out in my 50th season of fishing. A typical Usk starter! On the river about 11 with medium olives hatching. Rose 6 fish in first hour - hooked 2 - landed none. They have been practicing over winter! Never mind, James had 3 to hand by this time. I turned it around with two fish in the afternoon whilst LDOs hatched which left us with 2 x 15", 2 x 12" and 1 x 10" wbt between us, all on para olive dun, and all returned. All quiet again on the river by 4pm.
We thought we had a March Brown but it lacked the obligatory leg spots - what does that make it I wonder?

Best fish one and three quarter pounds - rest much smaller. Most on dry Parachute Adams, one on nymph. A lot of sun but still quite cold. Only the odd fish rising so had to work quite hard for them including some challenging wading! Beautiful beat with a pair of sandpipers chasing each other around and a swan nest on an island.
