Both were caught on a hare's ear and partridge spider. I had to leave at lunchtime, when it was starting to warm up and flies, particularly stoneflies, were starting to come off the water.

Found this stretch of the Tees at Barnard Castle very difficult to access so didn’t fish. I noted the advice of the local club that to be careful and use a wading stick but I really think there should be better local knowledge given to day ticket purchasers.

Tough conditions, water very low. But a superb location and plenty rising around me and further upstream, tricky to catch, lost a lot more than I hooked. Part of the fun, will be back!

Low water levels and difficult conditions. A few fish were lost, in addition to the two landed. The fish landed were caught on small streamers.
A mink was sighted hunting along the edge of the river, downstream of the castle, behind the houses at the bottom of town.
An enjoyable afternoon, thank you.
