Extremely pretty stretch of river. Access information could do with being a bit more detailed.

Maize beck too low to fish but good water in the upper Tees being discharged from Cow Green, so excellent sport with too many trout to count! (All safely returned)

Conditions were 1st class. All fish took Howard Croston’s “Retirer” dry fly……size 12.

3/4 day fishing dry fly (klinkhammer and parachute grey and brown patterns on size 16 barbless hook). Wading with staff from just above the quarry and travelling up stream for 2-3 miles. River conditions were great however strong winds made casting and fly presentation a real challenge. We had 22 lovely conditioned wild browns between us - majority around 1/2 pound or so although we missed many many takes due to poor line presentation. Much evidence of otter activity and spraint clearly indicated diet of crayfish.

Afternoon fishing session on stretch above High Force Falls using waders and wading staff (definitely needed). Good water conditions but wind was a real challenge especially as we were fishing the dry fly only on light tackle. 7’ rods with 3/4 etc floating line. Majority of fish taken on Klinkhammer and parachute dry flies on grey and brown patterns and size 16 barbless hooks. No other anglers seen and we fished up to the the quarry.

Fished downstream of bridge at low force to bridge at Newbiggin. Low water meant easy access to lots of interesting pools.

Fished downstream of footbridge at Newbiggin. Very difficult wading without a wading staff as lots of boulders

One nice trout one nice grayling with lots of smaller trout
