One of those red letter days. Conditions were more or less perfect, both in terms of weather and water (a little more colour may have been desirable).
Started at 'top' end faster water and worked out way down towards pylons as time passed. Decent Chub found throughout day, falling largely to ledger and pellet. 3oz, more than enough to hold bottom in most places.
Around one the first Barbel showed up, but it was after three that things got hectic, with four fish caught in a 90 minute window. Carried on till dusk, with last knockings arguably bringing the best fish of the day. All taken on a mix of pellet, from traditional Halibut, to Robin Red. Noticeable that the better fish preferred normal Halibut today.
Chub sizes ranged from 1.5 to 4lb. The Barbel were between 5.5 and 8.5lb. Worth commenting that ALL fish were in absolutely superb condition. Beautifully scaled, coloured and in most instances, plump. No damaged tails or fins and no evidence of lice. I think it was likely that few had seen a landing net before.
Not sure there's another stretch where bankside access to river is so easy. Yes, the trudge from parking to river might be a bind in heavy weather, but for an experience like yesterday's, a worthwhile endeavour.
The Bunch of Carrots nearby, offered a good range of beers, decent food and a nice environment in which to pick the day apart.

Water was up and flowing fast. Several swims proved fruitless. 2 caught out of the very snaggy swim just before the bend when the Lugg enters the Wye. Tough gig!
