The river seemed to be above normal when we arrived and going like a train! We therefore had difficulty in finding anything like slack water. We eventually found a couple of spots close together where the was a modicum of slack, close in under the bank. The river rose a further 18" while we were there and the fishing became even more difficult. I had just one take all day, which hooked me into a barbel, but the fish very quickly took me into the roots of a small willow, and that was the end of that! My son, fishing a few metres downstream blanked comletely.

River about 1.5 feet up. Plenty of chub on this beat, lost count of how many, at least 15, including two fish not far short of 5 pounds. The barbel were harder to find but ended up with 4 to about 7 pounds. Nice beat, plenty to fish to the whole lenth of the beat. Yes all on pellets!

Lovely day if a little windy. Had a decent knock within 2 minutes of casting out, 2 minutes later I lost a chub, it fell off. Had 2 barbel in the next couple of hours and hoped for a good days fishing. Unfortunately the fish had other ideas. Other rod lost a fish almost as soon as he hooked it, line cutting on the rocks then he had one fall off. That was it for him. I fished in several swims looking for fish but had to wait 7 hours to get any more bites! I found some chub I suspect, just below where the Lugg enters the Wye. Quite a few rattles on the rod but nothing else hooked

Day 2 and Jeff joined me. For Wye novices we winkled out a few decent chub to 4lb and Jeff had a barbel at around 5lb. With the river up, limited to the swims but we did quite well on the bend furthest from the car park. Luncheon meat and a spicey pellet.

Really just a quick looksee before my fishing buddy joined me later in the week. River up quite a bit (and a lot bigger than my local river!) and needing 3oz lead to hold bottom. A 2lb eel, a few decent chub and a 7lb barbel quite a good start to the week. Luncheon meat did the trick. Nice location, quite a walk if you don't want to risk the car in a wet field (and if you are on your own you might not want to).

1 Chub (2lb), 6 Barbel (3lb - 6lb 14oz).

Shocking weather and I saw 6 trees and a yellow garden shed float past. The river was rising so I called the office to ask if I could get a washout. They said yes but advised that it should be fishable. I decided to man up and found a swim where 4oz of lead actually held bottom. Was very glad I did!

Water still high and very coloured and going through very fast. Eel 1st cast on meat, 1 and 1/2lb, then found it quite hard to hit bites as the line kept getting debris on, but we got a few small chub before lunch. Then decided to glue some swivels on heavy stones and use them as weights to fish in the fast flow in search of the bigger fish. Got 5 chub up to 2 and 1/2lb and a barbel of 3lb. Hooked a couple of larger barbel, but one straightened my hook and I couldn't get the other past the rocks hidden below the flow. Caught a dace before the wind got up and then we stopped getting bites. Saw 3 good sized salmon rising all day, one very big. Along with the kingfishers and birds of prey it's a great area to fish, we enjoyed the challenge and we will be back. Successful baits were meat, cheese, and corn for chub - frankfurter pellets for the barbel. Thanks again to WUF

Arrived to find the river was whizzing through and up several feet. I was expecting to have a really good day but unfortunately the fish thought otherwise. Fished down towards the Lugg and had nothing, moved upriver a bit and caught 2 chub eventually got a small barbel as it was getting dark. Amused myself feeding the minnows in the margins. Nice to be on the river anyway.
