Started off by making the descision to fish the fishing hut bank rather than making the long journey round, what a v-good decision this turned out to be, managed to catch 4 barbel to 6lb and 2 chub 2lbs in the confluence pool during overcast conditions. As soon as the sun came out my swim died a death. Decided to move above John in next swim up, he was clearly on the barbel with 1 barbel that looked like a double. He decided to leave and said you should jump in here, so I did - I had another 5 barbel, biggest 9lb 14oz with two 7+s and two 6.5lbs all on pellet. What an amazing days fishing on the Wye - the beat is short but very very sweet!

Our third visit in as many weeks to the Wye and, at last, my first barbel at 7lb caught just as light was fading. Between us, we also had a few decent chub to just under 5lb and another smaller barbel. We thought about fishing near the confluence with the Lugg but the sight of 9-10 Mergansers working the pool made us think better of it. The Mergansers flew off but no doubt they will be back - I logged them on the cormorant watch site. A lovely stretch of the river - we'll definitely be back.

Very poor day. Started fishing about 9.30am, we had takes for the first hour or two, lost 4 fish and landed 1 barbel (6lb 13oz) and then it went dead for the rest of the day. Moved around alot but still didn't seem to have much luck.

Water low and clear but a lovely day for fishing. I'm afraid that the barbel outsmarted me (not difficult) but ended the very enjoyable day with 8 chub, the biggest weighing in at 5lb. Tried all the usual baits and all worked for the chub.
Another day booked for the 6th, on a different beat, which I am looking forward to. Thanks.

Return visit river low and clear as to be expected with the previous weeks weather. Barbel of 6lb second cast of day with another of similar size later in day both on pellet. 3 Chub between 3 & 4lb. Fished middle of the day with trotting gear plenty of small Dace and Chublets virtually a fish each run through, encouraging to see. Apologies got back to the car and found that print out of confirmation and beat details had fallen from back pocket, this obviously has name, address etc so if found I was not intentionally littering.

First visit to WUF beat and certainly won't be the last. 11 Barbel hooked unfortunately only 6 of which were landed to 9lb, snagging in weed/rocks the major culprit of lost fist (and poor angling of course). Luke also managed 6 Chub to 4lb. A nice stretch of water which we would approach slightly differently if visit again. Spotted a Mink on far bank by Lugg confluence also passing group of canoeists also mentioned spotting one later in day. Sitting watching one group of 4 canoeists pass when out of the blue between the last 2 canoes a Salmon leaps around 4ft clear of the water, not sure about spooking fish but the occupants were certainly spooked, hilarious! Quite a number of Salmon spotted during the day. Thanks.

14 barbel to 7lb+ and 5 chub between the two of us. Pleasing result on a very low river. As usual most canoeists very pleasant and friendly, though one gentleman chose to canoe up river with two very small children and then canoe back so incompetently that one of the children could easily have been injured.... It takes all sorts...
