Three anglers fishing our 2nd day on this beat, very wet and windy, so decided to ledger pellets and meat, we also float fished when we could which produced far more fish.
Another good day considering the weather conditions.

Three anglers fishing this stretch for the first time. We have never caught so many Chub! Average size 2.5-3lb and biggest was just short of 6lb mainly on float fished meat and bonus Barbel as well on ledgered pellet. On the down side, there is a wasp’s nest on the path 3/4 of the way to the island and they don’t like anglers!! They will attack!

Weirdly for this beat the barbel were not pushed aside by the chub, most fell to pellet in various swims, the end swim is difficult to reach now , bring waterproof boots if you fancy the walk! Brilliant day on a great best that rarely fails to deliver.

A very pleasant day. Thank you for fixing the styles. Easy parking. Long walk if you wish to fish the far end, but very well maintained footpaths. Lovely spot. Fish caught on a mixture of meat and sweetcorn, mainly trotting a float down.

Another wonderful day on the Wye, as 3 intrepid anglers sampled their third different beat on the middle section this year. Holme Lacy didn't disappoint. Nervously and excitedly tiptoeing through the cows at first light, on our way to the first swim, we were thrilled to see them largely disinterested in our presence (SPOILER ALERT - not all the wildlife encountered was as welcoming) We started fishing from the bottom of the beat, at the Island, inadvertently taking the wet and slippy route vs the dry and safe (but invisible path to our bleary eyes) path. MF's expletives soon woke everybody up, including 15 chub in the first hour who very obliging to pellet and cheese baits on the feeder. The chub remained plentiful but barbel elusive so we worked our way back through various swims, catching chub in each. Half way along the path back to the hut, MA and Sherlock met an angry swarm of Wasps/Hornets who took a main interest in stinging Sherlock's hind quarters. **Caution to Anglers walking this path at the moment** With no lasting damage that extra sausages couldn't remedy, we fished the remaining swims and had success in all of them, all swims are accessible with plenty of room. MF finally tempting an afternoon 7.5Lb barbel on a boilie, in the field after the first stile. MA prising a few chub on the stick, but the vast majority of all fish caught came on the feeder and 14mm pellet method. DC and MF ending the day in the swim by the hut, securing the second barbel of the day at 6.5lb and a few extra chub, finishing as we started, in poor light and with tired limbs, but reflecting on another wonderful day in the most picturesque of settings.
