Harder work than usual on a coloured river that came up three feet the previous day. Barbel were especially hard to find, but they fed well in one spot for a short period in the afternoon. Island swims all inaccessible and/or unfishable due to the extra water.

Although we caught 57 Chub, with a good number over 4lb, we were unable to locate the barbel. Fished at the end of the Island, on the bends preceding it and from groins section, access to which was well maintained. Fish caught mainly on meat but also on a range of pellets from 7am to 3pm when strorms hit.

Been trying to get on here in the summer for a few years but were thwarted by the low oxygen closure last year. The massive head of Chub down the bottom end were very obliging to float, meat and hemp tactics with all three of us having our best ever Chub catches of 48, 32 and 18 with all bar a handful being around 3lb with the biggest at 4.5. Moved swims and tried for the barbel in the afternoon but only more Chub. A brilliant day's fishing!
