Beat:Monnow Valley
Fishing:Trout (River)
No. of Anglers:1
Short session from lunchtime. River dropping after the recent rain but still running fairly fast through the shallower sections.
Access was difficult and most of the bank could benefit from a trim. Trotting for grayling but came away having caught one WBT. Hatch of March browns seen around 1pm but no sign of surface feeding.

No grayling spotted but 5 out of season trout caught whilst euro nymphing, 3 other fish lost. Beautiful bit of water but access is difficult in places and could do with a trim.

This was my first time to the beat. It was a very secluded, peaceful beat with nice looking water. There are some very deep pools which made wading a little more difficult than I anticipated. No fish caught - it was a very cold day and it has been cold all week which may have turned the fish off. I was mostly czech nymphing upstream trying to get as deep as possible, but didn't manage to connect with any grayling.
Would like to return here during trout season with more active fish. I only explored from the studio upstream.

No fish hooked (missed a few). Didn’t explore as much of the beat as I should. Access to a lot of the river is very restricted due to the overgrowth.

Only one fish rising to hatch and caught. River quite low and two otters seen by the cottage studio, a little later saw a mink, hope these have not taken to many fish as it is a great place to spend a day

1 pretty WBT for JD saved a blank. Otherwise not even a nibble for either of us. Fished PM until 9pm, only a few rises that weren't repeated. Water fresh and clear, little bit of a shower later on. Some bugs about.

First time fishing this beat and what a good beat to fish. Only fished ¾ of the length of the beat upriver sighting and targeting rising fish. Caught 6 on caddis dry fly and 3 on pheasant tail nymph with an orange tag. Quite surprising how deep some of the swims can get too. Very good beat will definitely be returning

Very warm and sunny, and river low.
Much of the river not accessible due to bank vegetation, and even though water was low, some very deep pools limit wading in places. So grateful however that time and effort has been made to provide access points which are clearly marked.
Beautiful, secluded beat.
3 Trout, 3 Grayling
