As expected the river was low and clear, but based on water temperatures I decided to travel. Fished the lower end of the beat where there was a bit of fast flowing water - the deep stretches looked almost stagnant. 3 Chub before lunch and a lone Barbel of around 7lb at about 4pm. I’ve never seen the river so low, but great swim cutting on the beat gave lots of choice.

Although river levels very low fish could be found in faster well oxygenated water.
Met Stefan , a humble and pleasant man, who passed on relevant information about tactics and best swims to fish.
A hard and difficult day as float fishing meant wading in fast water. luncheon meat and sweetcorn accounted for all the fish caught.

Nice stretch of water, we caught using cage feeder with hemp and pellets. The water was quite low however certain pegs had a nice flow in the middle of the river and this is where we had some success.

Loads of small chub all falling for freelined meat from faster water plus 2 barbel of 3lb and 6lb. Finding the fish was key so stayed mobile. All fish released quickly and all swam away strongly.
Loads of kingfishers to watch as well.

2 Barbel, 24 Chub
