Beautiful beat with excellent access. Fished the field upstream of the car parking spot. Downstream would be much harder to access. We had action throughout the day with barbel from 3 to 8lb plus a couple of chub around a pound and a half. One of the latter was seen bashing fry and was caught on a small silver lure. 5 fish each but the padawan beat the master by almost 7 pounds. Usual tactics of pellets or similar behind a feeder.

What an end to another great four days on the Wye. The best barbel today was 8.06 and chub were to about 3.08 (estimated). All fish were caught on feeder and different pellet combinations and at times the bites came within seconds of casting in. There were also spells when the bites dried up and we had to wait a couple of hours before the feeding resumed.

River level was high and running fast. We had to cast just 10-15 yards out. Plenty of fish early on and later but went quiet for a few hours in the afternoon. A most enjoyable day!

Arrived early and fished my favourite swim until noon but it was slow going. Left the river to the canoeists and headed in to Ross for some lunch. Decided to give a swim I never really fancied for the evening and caught from the off. Excellent sport with largest Barbel weighing 9lb exactly. All fish caught on feeder and pellet/sweet corn.

Water level at Ross was approx 0.4m. Fished feeder and pellets / meat. We fished upstream of the car park, we enjoyed the day but were disappointed with lack of swims downstream. Also don't appreciate the one rod only rule, it makes no sense to me, rod licence allows 2!!!!

Three of us fished over 2 days. We only found 3 accessible pegs all upstream from the car park area ending at what is known as Vanstone Pool. Although we walked the length of the stretch downstream, we could not find access to those pegs marked on the map as Parson Tree, Rope Pool and Ford Stream. Suggest some signage would be helpful. We did catch but not prolifically. Our best fish were two Barbel over 8lbs and two chub over 4lbs. Chub were mainly caught with trotting bacon grill and sweetcorn. Barbel were caught on a variety of hair rigged baits:- 8mm and 10mm Halibut pellet, 8mm Robin Red and sweetcorn.
It is a lovely stretch of water but we feel that we didn't fulfill its potential due to not being able to find the pegs shown on the map. The water was cloudy on our first day but a little clearer on the second. We would be happy to return again if we could be sure of easier, clearer access to all the pegs on the whole stretch.
