On a low clear Wye after just a couple of fish on a day ticket water the day before, we were prepared for a hard day. This is a beautiful stretch and a nice drive to the river bank parking. We spread along the beat in the morning from the van stone pool to the Rope pool and mainly fished pellet and hemp through block end feeders and had nothing on pellet at all. One good chub to float fished maggot was all we had to show for our efforts up till about 1.30. Pete was fishing the downstream stretch and had persevered in the same swim all day when he eventually had a good barbel on blockend with maggot, after spending most of the morning on pellet. The rest of us followed suit in our own swims and what followed was truly great fishing. Before packing up at 5 pm we had 19 barbel to just under 8lb and another 3 good chub. The fish were in excellent condition and fought well , especially in the swims rife with streamer weed. Pete also had a 1lb trout in his bag of 9 barbel. Perhaps the fish just came on at that time and we would have caught on pellet but we were happy to catch on maggot.
An earlier entry stated that few swims were available. Apart from Luggsmouth where the whole bank is walkable I would say this stretch has got more than enough swims (with the added bonus of no far bank anglers)and we tried most of them

River looked in good condition. Both anglers fishing the upper beat with no barbel showing in the morning. Mid afternoon saw PB land 2 barbel at approx 6lb on pellet within 30 mins of each other then nothing. PW blanked, but enjoyable day in lovely surroundings.

The night before fishing was very cold so probably affected catches. The Chub was around 3lb and was caught trotting with maggots in the shallower weedy section. The Barbel was around 7lb and caught on pellet. My fishing companion was fishing the deeper water and caught nothing. One canoe went through at about 4:45. The venue was beautiful and it was a joy to be out on the bank.
Please note: There was another vehicle above the Middle Court stretch at the end of the field and it appeared that the person did tackle up before the vehicle (Silver and Blue Pick up truck) moved on.
WUF Note: this would have been a salmon angler fishing the Goodrich Court beat

Conditions not ideal with low clear water and bright sunshine throughout the day making fishing difficult. Spells of feeding in early afternoon and then towards dusk saw 3 barbel the best being about 8lb and a number of smallish chub. This is lovely beat with good access and plenty of areas to go at and will definately return.

Arrived early with the mist still swirling down the river, a beautiful sight and a chill in the air.
Warmed up when we walked to our chosen fishing spot. Very quiet until mid afternoon then we enjoyed 11 beautiful Barbel between us and a few Chub. Stunning surroundings and a magical river.

A more successful day that the previous one (Courtfield), despite the rain from the previous day, the river had not really risen & was still running clear with a lot of weed coming through. After the previous day's rain a second mild (even muggy) day with overcast skies & intermittent (sometimes heavy) showers may have been the reason we were able to find them feeding & for longer periods.
I Caught within the first hour of arriving and then managed one every few hours for a total of five with a couple of hours to go. As can often be the case, the last hour or so then became hectic, with the two of us now fishing the same swim we took a further 9, even having one on at the same time at one stage. All the fish were in excellent condition & faught strongly, the majority were between 5 - 7lbs taken mid river on pellet or boilie over the feeder or PVA bags. A soggy, humid, muddy & enjoyable day in a swim that resembled somewhere on the "Somme" by the time darkness fell & we packed away.

1 angler caught a 7lb 12oz barbel on luncheon meat fished half way across the river. The 2nd angler was smashed up on the first take, went onto catch 4 eels, best around 3.5lbs and a barbel of 4.5lbs. All these fish feel to luncheon meat fished 2/3 across the river. The other anglers had 20 chub between them as well as about 6 small dace. All the chub ranged between 2 to 4 ozs fished on trotted maggot. Nothing was caught on the swim feeder.
The weather was breezy and upstream which helped long trotting. The water was low and clear.
The fishery itself was OK but we were confined to the last swims on the furthest upstream boundary. The other swims had steps down step banks but these were very muddy and it would have been dangerous to have attempted to go down and wade.
2 Barbel, 20 Chub, 4 Other
