9 Barbel were caught ranging in size from 4 up to 8 1/2 lb. All were in good condition 1 was caught in the morning in Vanstones Pool the remainder were caught in the afternoon in the three cleared swims in and around Rope Pool and at the end of the concrete road. They were all caught on swim feeder rigs using pellet and boilies. There was heavy canoe activity until 4 pm but this did not appear to have an adverse effect. The fishing really switched late evening at about 8 pm with bites coming thick and fast. An absolutely brilliant days fishing.

Found getting to the swims a bit tricky because of the 5ft high stingers and undergrowth but once we had beaten our way through to the river, fishing wasn't to much of a problem. The river was in good order apart from a slight algae bloom which put some colour in but we found it didn't affect the fishing too much. We enjoyed some good sport with both chub and barbel taking our pellet feeder tactics fairly regularly and over the course of the weekend we managed 9 barbel to roughly 9lbs and 6 chub to 5lbs plus.
All in all a great weekend and hope to get back as soon as possible.

River Ht .42m Fished the last two pegs at the far end of the beat. Caught 3 Barbel between 6 and 8lb and 3 Chub all between 2 1/2 to 3lb.
Barbel caught on sweetcorn and Chub on halibut pellet. All caught on ledger tatics fished to the nearside swim of the river.
I appreciate the Foundations policy of keeping rivers in a natural state but walked the full stretch of the river and realistically found approx 4 fishable pegs!
I'm not as young as I used to be and high slippery banks with access difficulties can lead to accidents. Even the game lads would have difficulty accessing this beat. A balance does need to prevail between access and enviromental quality.
On the positive great days fishing in fantastic surroundings.
WUF note - This beat was walked by WUF staff on 2nd July and there are 7 accessible swims along it's length with the option for anglers to cut their own wilder swims should they so wish.

Had a real grueller yesterday despite starting the session around 4.30am and fishing straight through to 9.30pm. Lost a fish early on but blanked otherwise. My friend saved the blank at dusk with a sinlgle 5lb barbel but generally very difficult. Conditions looked perfect and we both took the usual pellet/feeder approach (varied hook sizes/lengths, used range of pellets 8>11 mm). As we are both new to this water any suggestions (from seasoned Wye fanatics) as to why this might be (semi polite only) MUCH appreciated.
AMAZING venue, thanks WUF for opening these beats, long may you prosper!
