The river was low and clear, some fast runs but the fish were very shy. We both fished with pellet, corn, meat from 8am to 4.30pm only 2 takes all day.
I have fish this stretch before and have done much better fishing the fast runs.

Tried several swims, river was fast with a bit of colour, biggest chub was 4lb caught on a bunch of maggots. Also had a small dace, hooked & lost a barbel late in the afternoon. another angler appeared out of the undergrowth on the other bank caught a pike then vanished again. Nice beat will come back when there is less flow.

Tried various swims with little success. A double blank being avoided by an obliging 3lb chub on the last cast. Taken on feeder-fished pellet.

A torrid time by all on the river today! Levels up and carrying lots of debris. All struggled to hold bottom with 6 oz of lead! Managed to mug one Chub at end of the day but other 3 anglers biteless despite trying various swims and tactics. A beautiful beat with stunning scenery topped by Goodrich Castle as a backdrop. Vehicle access good but swims quite a challenge. Had my first experience of abseiling for Barbel! Would return in lower water level conditions.

River just starting to drop but still carrying lots of debris. 1 barbel hooked, but unfortunately lost in marginal snags.
