Arrived early to a beautiful misty morning. River was up after the rain. Was expecting a good day but I think because of the previous night’s cold snap, this switched things off. My fellow angler read the water temp at 10 degrees. Started well by loosing two sets of tackle from two casts in the top swim then spent an hour in a different swim along most of the beat. Tried feeding them up but didn’t seems to work. Didn’t try the far end but did allot of walking. Spent 10 hours trying and had allot of knocks in the 4th swim from the top so shortened the hook link and managed 1 Chub which was about 2lb. Was hoping for more and stayed put in that swim for another few hours until sunset but nothing showed itself. Tried meat and various sized pellet and dumbbell on the feeder with ground bait and hemp.

The river did drop a bit over night but then throughout the day rose back up higher than the day before. We decided to bait and wait in a couple of swim to get the best out of them, managing 2 barbel for are efforts. Swim access and management is pretty poor still, banging in silly bits of timber as step barely in the ground doesn't give you much confidence walking down in slippy conditions. And a few older productive swims downstream have been left to grow over, not giving you many options.

Nice to back on this stretch of the wye after a few years not fishing it, weather prior to are trip was not in our favor with lots of rain bringing the river up and a lot of debris downstream. Well i say debris trees between 20ft -30ft were regular flowing past. The fishing was a challenge bites hard to come by but did manage 2 good size chub fishing in the slack calmer water.

Great beat plenty of pegs thanks to Stefan the bailif. Access to this beat has improved massively. Four Anglers fished spread out over the length. Caught fish through out the day using the pellet feeder .

Our first time at this beat for the two of us. A really beautiful stretch with an excellent choice of swims. I wanted to explore the whole stretch which takes some time and energy as it's a mile long! We did find some of the swims a bit snaggy but I guess thats just down to experience and knowing where not to cast. The swims further downstream tended to be less snaggy although less fishy as well!!! All fish caught on meat and one angler catching a few more than the other. I will definitely come back - travel light and explore the whole stretch again.
