A cold day, the air temperature never above 4 degrees all day, with no evidence of fly life or hatches. Water was 1ft on the gauge at Skenfrith bridge.
All grayling taken utilising the "Duo method" on the lower fly, a gold head PTN. The OOS WBT was taken on a heavy bug. Great fishery, thanks WUF. Just got recover from the cold...we'll be back!

The weather was dry, the temperature around 17c. I set off in chest waders and a short sleeved shirt in search of a grayling. I was informed by locals that access on to the right hand side of the river was not very good and nobody knew if you could walk across fields to enter on to the river. From the Bell Inn, cross the bridge and on your right hand side of the road is a stile leading on to a public foot path. You need to walk at least 200m before the river is accessible. The river was was running fairly fast but wading with care was possible. After fishing various pools and fast waters, I managed to catch my very first and only Grayling of about 20cm on a Pink Shrimp in fast water by letting my fly bumble its way down stream, after first casting across and upstream.
Can't wait to return later on in the year to try my luck in an outstanding area of the country.

Lovely beat, good water. Easier fishing down the bottom of the beat, less trees. Don't agree it is OK for waders. I only fished an hour and then I suffered a cut at the back of the ankle in my waders (had them 40 odd years with never a leak) and it is too deep in a lot of pools for them anyway, so I will definitely use chest waders next time with my studded boots on. Plenty of fish rising but couldn't tempt one with a small klinkhammer, no good Czech nymphing either.

Plenty of fish rising all day particularly at the start of the beat. Beautiful day for it to boot.

A tricky day with most of the rising fish in the glides and very spooky.

1 x 8 inch brown trout caught on an Adams circa 4.45pm from the pool just upstream of broken water. Overcast, windy and not a lot of activity on the surface otherwise. Fly hook was not deeply embedded: the fish released easily and swam vigorously away. Very pleasant afternoon. The Bell provided ample compensation for the fact that it was, otherwise, an uneventful one.

River level was very low - but it's August so no surprise there. Fishing was hard but fish of 4lbs 6oz to be found in faster water at the head of pools. Great sport, lovely location. WUF booking process simple to use.
Only concern was the sight of two birds overhead which looked worryingly like Goosanders.

Beautiful river to fish. Typical August fishing, warm sunny day and nothing much happening until the evening. One nice brownie of about 10", the rest were in the 4-6" range. Some great glides and pools and another time of the year, this would be a fabulous fishery to be sure.

Fished for a couple of hours in the evening. Saw some rises but didn't have any takes. Stayed at the Bell at Skenfrith, which was excellent.
