Beautiful part of the river, the fishing was slow as the river had fined down a lot during the previous day, the level was dropping steadily whilst we were there until it went clear. We started our session fishing with maggots for the chub and perch which proved to only catch a number of finger dace and chublets, nothing sizeable though. We switched to the ledger for the rest of the session and we managed to pull a couple of barbel on pellet and fish meal boilie near the end of the session. We stayed at the White Lion pub which was only a 10 to 15 minute drive away from the beat, very comfortable bed and breakfast, good ale and very nice food, they did us a packed lunch and filled the flasks up for us. We would highly recommend trying a stay here. Tight lines!!

The water was slightly coloured which helped the fishing as we got off to a great start with 3 barbel in half an hour very early in the morning. The action slowed down soon after and we went searching for fish. A chub and small barbel followed around midday with my friend catching the last barbel and chub with an hour to go. All barbel between 6 and 8lbs. With the chub 3 and 4 lbs. Lovely fishing all round.

First visit to this beat, car access very good, able to park near the hut. Not surprisingly, a low and clear river combined with unseasonably bright, warm weather, made for a challenging day's fishing. Feeder/pellet and meat failed to produce the goods but float fished maggot provided some enjoyable sport, with several small chub and dace obliging.
BP led the way with more than twenty small dace and a perfectly-conditioned barbel of 6lb (his first on float!). However, RE was awarded ‘catch of the day’ for retrieving BP’s landing net, some 50m downstream from where it found it’s way into the river!

The water was low and only one barbel was caught on crill pellet fishing the concrete ledge. This fishery boasts a mile of bank but three quarters of that in the deeper water has no apparent swims and to clear some would've taken most of the day with tools we didn't take. None of us are eager to fish White House again.

Sunny day, and lovely looking place. My first visit.
River was pretty settled and only a little colour to it. Salmon were jumping fairly regularly. Lots of swans, and the Canada geese came in in the afternoon.
Fishing Pellet, with feeder (bolt) / pva bags. Tried 8lb mono as well as 10lb braid for pellet, tried long and short leaders. Also tried 5lb mono for maggot and corn. Tried plain luncheon meat, corn (singles and multiples), maggot (and corn cocktail), even tried cheese. Tried breaking up the larger hook pellets into smaller pieces, even gluing smaller pellets to a piece of cork to make a sausage for hair rig.
Tried recasting the feeder every 10 mins, every 20 mins.
Fished for a couple of hours in each of about four swims moving upstream from the hut. Several of the swims were quite snaggy.
Had two or three bites (mainly morning at sunrise and night just before sunset), plenty of line bites through the day, but no fish. Two minnows came in, one foul hooked and the other stuck in my feeder.. greedy beggar!
Given that there were only two rods available to book, I didn't understand why there were 5 people on the beat through the day.

Bit of a patchy day but very enjoyable. This beat offers comfortable fishing with some swims more challenging for access. Make sure you take the R-hand access up the concrete slope in the farmyard and avoid driving into the cow slurry.
One angler cast around to find fish and bagged 6 barbel and a couple of chub. Second angler found fish in two places and bagged 4 barbel and a chub. Third angler was trotting and bagged a few chub plus a bonus perch on trotted pellet which just failed to reach the 3lb mark. Single pellet and very light feeding seemed to be the way.

Although the river level had dropped following high water levels a few days earlier, the water in front of us was very fast and we suffered with a large amount of leaves coming down and pulling the feeders out of position. We fished from 10am till 7pm but neither of us had so much as a touch all day. Usually a banker venue for us but not on this occasion sadly.

Lovely place, tried a few pegs but we found the fish in the end. Barbel to just over 9lb. Seen several salmon jumping too, which is always a stunning sight.

We parked by the river near the pump which was running. We had a long walk to the top end of the fishery there are few swims but there are some. David caught a chublet to start on maggot followed by a nice 9lb Barbel on hair rigged sweetcorn. The a whopping 7lb Chub came to his net using spiced luncheon meat this time.
Colin could only manage a Chublet to maggot and two 31b Chub to luncheon meat.
Thanks Wye and Usk.
