Fished White House on Monday 11th March for 3 hours without a bite. Bitterly cold upstream wind made fishing very uncomfortable. River was fishable. Returned Wednesday 13th March for second session. Cold but wind had dropped. Three Chub on luncheon meat around 2lb made the trip worthwhile. Look forward to returning again later in the year.

My brother and I ventured down to White House, though I was the only one to wet a line. River slighly up, not too coloured - strong NE wind, blowing upstream combined with the general temperature made for a cold few hours.
Given the temperatures, I decided not to go for the usual pellet approach and instead fished a smallish feeder with maggots. Had a bite a cast, but only managed to hook and land two dace. Speed of reaction was somewhat impaired by wrestling with the rather cumbersome gloves required to keep my hands warm!
My brother had departed about mid-day, after a sleep in the car - the prospect of sitting in the warm, watching the rugby seemed a much better alternative and I left about 1.30pm.
Despite the conditions it was really nice to be back out on the Wye again, watching the activity in the fields opposite and the Buzzards wheeling about up above. Bring on the summer!

Only 2 thought the trip would be worth it with the river up. Both rods had a fish each but couldn't move around enough to find fish.

We we were the only 2 rods booked on this day, rather disappointed that 2 other anglers were there already in the best swims. They said they had booked through the farmer, though this was found to be untrue as the farmer had no knowledge of this. They paid whatever and were allowed to carry on. According to a farm worker anglers often turn up without booking.
Anyway they went in the afternoon we moved into the pegs and had 4 barbel upto 7lb and 3 chub to just under 4lb in around 3 hours fishing. The first part of the day we fished at the very top end of the beat but with no catch.

Lovely days fishing. 5 Barbel between 4/6 lb all on pellet.
Despite low clear water and loose weed and bright sunny day, fished fast deep water and the barbel all came in the afternoon..
If you are looking for excellent accommodation near to beat try the Falcon House at How Caple. Met the owner, very friendly.

A warm bright day. The river was quite clear. I started at the top of the beat in the deeper water and had a chub of 1 1/2lbs quite quickly, then nothing so early afternoon I moved right to the lower end of the beat where the shallow fast water deepens and there had another chub of 2lbs and my first ever barbel at 5lbs. All were taken on boilies. Lovely beat and shall return.
