Found the river still coloured but pressed on with the fly, One lost in the bridge pool on 1" tube and another pull in the same area. River dropping in the morning only to rise again through the afternoon. One nice brown taken due to being badly hooked. A lot of fish seen running through all day , some big!! Looking forward to next visit in clear conditions.

Beaten by the elements today, very heavy rain all night and all morning meant I didn't start fishing till 11:30am. I hooked and lost a fish soon after starting then took a 12 inch brownie from Tail of Rock Pool. The rain stopped and the sun came out and things were idyllic for a few minutes until a very strong downstream wind got up, why is it always downstream?? Casting upstream was virtually impossible so I decided to find somewhere calmer. I had a few casts right at the head of the beat on my way back to the car and had a cracking take on a dry fly but missed it!
Had a look at the downstream beats and even a small hatch of Yellow May Duns (or Yellow Mayfly?) didn't bring the trout up, took a look off the bridge at about 3pm and was surprised to see how coloured the water had become after the rain and decided to call it a day.

I did not see or touch any salmon, but the water looked good and I was certainly hopeful. It got a bit bright around midday so I decided to try for the trout instead, especially given the nice hatch that was taking place, including a few mayfly. The trout fishing was superb and I must have had 20+ between 10-15 inches, all returned, of course.

1ft 3", Rain and drizzle. Managed to free up some time for a cast. Nothing in tail of Rock, lost one 4th cast in the Mill stream (mid teen and silver). Lost another in the Rectory pool, then had thumping take in the Run from a 3lb brownie! Back up to Mill stream and much lower down the spine than I have ever hooked a salmon before, a silver 18lber took the small brass allies tube. Was cutting it fine to pick up my kids by this stage and horsed it into the net in about 7mins!

River at 1ft 6". Couple of hours after work. Water running out for the top half but as I was approaching the tail of the rock pool a broad back broke the surface in the prime taking lie. The anticipation as I swung a fly over it was immense! Worked the lie for 20 mins with various methods to no avail.
Water was perfect height for lower half so I went down and fought my way through the rocks and vegetation to get to the Neck of the Rectory. Down at the gap, there was a boil and a flash of silver as the fly was swept off the far bank. Couldn't get that one to come again so fished on and right in the aperture where the whole Wye rushes through a 5 yard wide gap the reel screamed into life. How they lie in that water amazes me. Great first run as it charged down into the pool below. When I saw it I thought it was the mother of all trout...but when it slid into the net it was a heavily spotted coloured hen salmon that was just under 10lb.
Decided to go back up and try the one that boiled again and sweet as a nut it nailed the fly. Better fish that for a while held station in the torrent for several minutes making me think it might have transferred the fly to a rock, no amount of pressure could move it but it eventually succumbed; 16lb of perfect Wye springer. Didn't cast again. Sated.

Fished in the morning with the Salmon Rod, starting at the Rock Pool where there was no sign of any Salmon but did take 3 trout, all 8-10 inches, How they managed to get a double hook Cascade in their mouth is beyond me!
Saw a Salmon move on the far bank just below the Mill Stream, approx. 8lb. Struggled to cover from the Left Bank so crossed over, but to no avail.
Got the trout rod out for a few hours and took a few small fish, very difficult fishing with nothing rising of note.
