6 brown trout to 1.5lbs (all released) plus a couple of dace in 4 hours of fishing. All fish caught on cdc emergers on the flats or small gold headed nymphs in the faster water. Got broken off by something very large in the tail of the Mill Race which came up and took a klinkhammer before tearing off at a rate of knots. Not the easiest day's fishing but overall a very enjoyable afternoon.

Final joint catch record was 2 grayling (estimate 10 oz./8
oz) and 2 Salmon Parr which was not surprising considering the weather conditions. The location and environment was delightful and I look forward to returning to the Wye/Usk area in the future.

Very hot even at 5pm - fish were starting to rise on the flats from around this time. Caught several trout to 10" in the fast water below the Gravel catch - all on a GRHE. Also caught dace, chub and a decent grayling around 12" on a kilnkhammer from the flats. Could have stayed all evening as felt it was really getting going around 6pm. Lovely beat as always, and will be back to target the bigger trout seen from Boughrood Bridge.

We had a great time on the Rectory yesterday. There was a good grannom hatch and you were right about the trout quartering the flow in search of the flies - 50% of the time our guess was right! We had some lovely fish - about 20 or so up to 1.5lb. I lost a couple of stonkers (2lb+) that charged off across the river. As the grannom hatch petered out we switched to fishing the riffles with Klinkhammer and small skinny nymph with reasonable success as fish rose to the klinkhammer in the bouncy rough water (knee deep). Olly thought he caught a small sea trout (three quarters of a pound on a klink) although I did not see the fish.... The river then rose quite rapidly and we called it a day.
