Very hot day and low water, slow but steady rise in morning and again late afternoon. WBT taken all day mostly to 6" best 10" all on small dry flies. A variety of flies used but all grey or dunn in colour and all successful. 3 grayling best to half a pound. All fish returned in good condition.
Large WBT seen on flats from bridge. Lovely beat with lots of fishable water, will be back this year without a doubt.
Many thanks to the Foundation and beat owner.

Just for the Rectory records (This fish in June):
I finally managed to break my duck at the Rectory with a good solid take in the Rock pool-- followed by instant stripping of line to the backing--
then a display of cartwheels, tail walking and slicing the water. After recovering line, more antics and then finally a hen fish of about 12lbs hooked firmly in the mouth with a Stoats tail.
A pleasure to see her swim away.
Height 1'9", colour and rising-- time 12.00 am.
Usk Grub, sink tip.

Great day but salmon seemed inexplicably dis-interested in what I was offering. I did eye-ball one on Gravel Catch as it leaped clear.

It was nice to be able to fish this beat in the Summer for coarse fish. Fished the Mill Pool but only managed 3 chub to 4lbs and missed a couple of bites, all on luncheon meat.

A nice couple hours evening fishing. Despite the cool temperatures there was still reasonable hatches of olives and yellow mays. 5 BT to 12", 2 small, out of season grayling and 2 dace, all to cdc olive emerger patterns.
