Rather cold today as I arrived at the river about ten o clock. I was in pursuit of a few big chub that I have seen at Gromain on occasions but only managed a few grayling and three o.o.s. brownies who took a liking to sweet corn. Nice to be on the river once more after all this rain.

Gromain and Ty-Nywedd. 4 rods. 29 grayling, best around 1.5lb. A B got two chub around 5lb each, while J R returned 14 grayling. Ty-Nywedd fished fairly well to the fly (9 grayling, to French nymph tactics and standard upstream wet and/or dry fly.) We all caught trout (the boys got around 40 down at Gromain) and saw a big (c.20lb) salmon at Ty-Nywedd.

Hooked a fish in the spring pool which came straight towards me, when it got level with me it came off! I'd forgotten sometimes they come off! Saw a fish show a couple of times later in the day in the same spot, it was not a 'portmanteau' which was a relief. Had a couple of good pulls in the bridge pool gutter as well, close but no cigar.

6 trout and 2 parr but no salmon seen or caught. Largely overcast, river came up 6" or so and then dropped back. Couldn't have asked for more other than a fish or two.
Lovely beat.

Caught trout and parr, alas no salmon. The water was at a good height and very clear 1.5 mtr visibillty and fish could of run the total stretch in this height. The bridging plank has gone to walk out to the boards, which does make life difficult getting accros. Ok if your brave and have the balance of a mountain goat, its achievable but dangerous. We didnt see any fish show all day which was suprising. The bridging board needs replacing urgently before someone has an accident. The comment about felt soles and studs needs to be heeded, we both have the above and its still tricky. be carefull. Gromain great water to fly fish, always enjoy it, remember to ask for the padlock combination to use the hut.
