A beautiful beat. Water height and colour good. Sunshine and cloudy spells. Unfortunately no takes or fish seen.

Note to anglers on this stretch to heed the WUF wading warning and also check their wading boot studs as the bedrock is like ice.

Amazing conditions, 1'8" and dropping, fair bit of colour but not too much, just felt like it would happen today. And it did....
Hooked an absolutely magnificent fish in the Orchard, it cleared the water twice, running to the far back and then ran right back to me and sat only 15 yards and and 10 yard down. Banging it's head hard and shook the hook loose. Clever fish.
I had that horrible feeling the hook set was not good, and it was indeed sadly the case. The take was so violent and unexpected I'm not sure how else it could have been played, but currently well in the beat-yourself-up phase!
Absolutely heartbreaking outcome for any Salmon fisher. As it all goes slack and so quiet you instantly know this will be a part of you forever. Got a good look at it twice: Deep fish way into the 20s and quite fresh too.
A nightmare in paradise!

Mainly small fish with one trout from head of Ferry nudging 12”. They went for the size 16 gold head on the point.
Other was a minnow(!)which took #18 soft hackle on dropper.

Some hard work has been done with the strimmer to make the tricky path more visible and to open up one or two more entry points. Thanks for your efforts.
Had to be selective about wading and avoided one or two spots which have usually produced fish in lower water.

absolute rubbish again, a lot for no reward. River in good nick and for the beat, funny thing is we didn't see a trout let alone a salmon, starting to think is it worth it

nothing seen or caught, Pathways on this beat are dangerous even though we know where we are going , a visitor would struggle that's for sure.

Fishing Passport Note : Since this feedback, pathways have been cleared. This work was planned but had to be delayed because of nesting Sandpipers (we always have to bear in mind that the Wye and its banks are SAC & SSSI designated). Also, please be warned that there is a wasp nest at the top of the Leaning Willow!

River at 1ft 6in, fairly coloured - then went up (evidently after a cloud-burst) to 2ft at about 5pm, so I had to stop then. No salmon seen, though lost probably a big trout (on 2 inch tube fly). Maybe a run of salmon is working its way through the river following these good water rises - but no sign of it yet today.

All caught in a four hour session mainly in the middle of the beat. Two trout around the 3/4 lb mark, the rest small. Assorted spiders took most of the fish.
One salmon seen in exactly the same place that it was in this time last week, presumably unable to move up with this incessant low water.
