River a lot higher than expected, a good 6 inches over the salmon boards. Nevertheless picked our way where we could and managed to pick up a few. No hatch of any kind really, only saw 2 fish rise all day some 50 yards or so near the far bank.
Highlight for me was to see a very large salmon maybe around 20lbs (give or take) completely air borne in the pool opposite the cottage.

very bright and warm, met a few other anglers from away nice people. fished hard but didn't touch a fish. Lots of fish in house pool showing.

The beat was in perfect conditions for salmon on upper wye. It was after very heavy rain and a falling river which was at perfect low medium height and water visibility great. I never saw a single salmon splash, and cast the fly on the entire beat twice. Changed flies and tips and covered the water well. When I had any black variant fly on there were stretches of water in which an abundance of trout. On a small stoats tail fly I had 5 trout from 1/2 lb up to a lovely estimated 1 1/2 lb trout on one stretch. However the lack of salmon signs was concerning in these perfect conditions.

Following late afternoon behind Gordon & Joe after them cleaning up the river of salmon was never going to make my day!

Rivers too swollen to fish. Will try again next year!

Large Chub caught on nymph, small trout and a couple of Dace. Water crystal clear.
