Another very quiet day.. only saw a couple of fish rise all day and then only once. No sign of salmon at all. Caught one lively 3/4 lb trout and lost 2 good other trout, but the wind started around lunchtime and just got worse and worse. It got the point where i was trying to quickly cast in the brief moments there wasn't a blast. The wind then arrived whilst casting and blew the fly right at me several times. I gave up....

What a splendid beat this is. Similar in nature to parts of the Shin or Teith. Some of the pools were a little slow in places at this height. The notes though were clear and easy to follow.
I fished a mixture of full intermediate, float/hover/int and full float. The bottom pools fished better at this height. It's deep in places but nothing showed. Possibly the nicest pool was Herons run.
Wading whilst not easy was better than described. Some of the walkways felt like they were too close to the flow but maybe they are better in low water.
Not that it helped but I fished a combo of size 9 Bann Special, size 12 Kitza Killer and a small cascade. All on a 12' long 12lbs tapered leader due to intermitant sun. It never rained but was more overcast in the afternoon. All felt good but if there were any fish they did not feel the same.
Slight colour in the water still but not too bad.

Fished the Leaning Willow pool at Gromain. Caught no fish but saw four running through the pool. River high with quite a bit of colour. Fell in and lost my pipe and a box of flies. Forget the flies, but if anyone finds my pipe, keep it for me please.

Not a single salmon in evidence today. Surprised me as the water was at a good height and flowing well. I stuck to trout fishing all day and caught 20 and a grayling of 1lb. Two of the trout were a decent size, one of 1 lb and one of 1 1/2lb, the latter being a bit thin and didn't put up much of a fight. It needed oxygenating to recover.

The water was at a good height today about 1/14 on the gauge, being wadable but not suicidal! Once again, there was very little sign of life all day. On 3 occasions, I was aware of humidity suddenly rising and instantly there were fish rising, albeit only once.
I concentrated on trout and caught 20, most of which were up to 7 inches, but I caught one good one of 1lb and another of 1 1/2lb which looked a bit thin. This one didn't fight well and seemed to need oxygenating when I returned him. A few of the 7 inch fish however, leapt all over the place when hooked! I also caught a good grayling of 1lb, which was the only fish I caught as a result of stalking.
There was no sign of salmon at all.

River conditions were good although river on the low side and early down pour may have not helped. Found fishing hard but managed to bring two small trout from the faster water on a small Black Beetle style fly. Both released. Was fishing on the other bank - to fishing hut , as was uneasy in using main parking area as track to river very slippery so decided to move out in case I couldn't get out as car is not FWD. Fished till 5 o'clock when the sky cleared. An enjoyable day.
