Used a mix of wet and dry flies - spiders and nymphs were used, but greater success came using a tungsten hare's ear, catching two wonderful 2lb and 4lb brown trout. Dry fly used was the oliver emerger, and was successful in catching 2 very small trout.

A beautiful stretch of river and with genuinely easy access for more mature trout fishers. Very few rises despite plenty of food coming down. Lovely fishing but tough catching.

Last minute booking it was 11am before on the water. Arrival coincided with the start of a hatch of olives and some March Browns. The fish responded and rose vigorously. Took 9 quality fish .75 to 2.25 lbs on hares ear cdc shuttlecock in an hour and a quarter before the hatch and rise faded. After lunch it was a matter of hunting the odd 'oncer' rising here and there. A quality day on a grand stretch of river.

More than 20 trout. From 4oz to a pound and a half. All safely returned. Taken on a dry fly (Adams type) mainly fished "blind" in riffly water. Easy access and day would have been even better had the river not been high and coloured when we arrived.

All fish released from barbless hooks. Raining heavily on and off most of day but fish free rising to a steady stream of olives from late morning onwards. 3 fish on copper john nymph but remainder on dry fly. 3 best fish all about 2lb and only 2 were under 1/2 pound with the remaining 13 1-1.5lb. excellent sport. One fish of about a pound had healed gashes on both flanks from (I suspect) goosander or cormorant. Neither bird seen on this occasion though.

A frustrating day: double digit missed takes on the dry, inordinate tangles, leaky waders... It had all seemed so promising at the beginning - this has always been a productive beat before - but maybe the trout were so shell-shocked by the rare seasonal weather they were following the lead of the locals on the far bank by the canal, and sun-bathing too! Fish caught up to 1/2 lb on upstream nymph and klinkhammer.
