Blank afternoon. Loads of bugs but no rises. Nymphs not working. Frustrating conditions

It should be made clear that there is a sewage treatment works at the top of this beat. If the wind is in the wrong direction, as it was in our case, the smell is overpowering. We could only last a few hours before it became too much and we left.

A cloudy day with occasional showers. The river was up a bit and coloured. Nymphs did the job today, especially a Walt's Worm variant and the Gasolina Perdigon. I fished until about 1430.

All caught euronymphing with weighted nymphs.

Two wild browns caught, one about a 1lb and the other 1.5lb. Both taken in fast flowing, oxygenated water on a classic hares ear nymph with a heavy tungsten bead to get it down. Both fish returned. Beautiful stretch of river, didn't get as much time to fish as I would have liked in the end so will definitely be back again.

1 12" WBT on an Olive Klinkhammer in the morning, very bright and warm day, plenty of rising fish later on but refused everything, despite small flies and 7x tippet.

Fished a dry/dropper on a mono rig. With the exception of a couple of showers it was overcast and warm. Both flies caught fish, especially an olive emerger and an orange perdigon. Disappointing to find rubbish on the river back left recently by an angler.

Didn't fish the full day.

Conditions seemed good but was quite quiet. WBT caught on heavy nymphs in faster water.
