River still highish (18” on Brecon gauge) running fast but clear. Stiff cold wind from SE ; Rain began at 11:00. An uncomfortable few hours fishing a PTN in the slower water.
Moving the locked gate down the hill has helped enormously. Field is very wet and I struggled even with 4WD. If you have doubts about your vehicle’s capability, may be wise to park on the recommended hard standing.
Winter floods have altered bank profile below Sewage Pool. Without a step ladder or crampons, be prepared to walk to the very bottom of the beat to access the river!

Arrived to find a very full river but fortunately not too much colour.
The winter floods had eroded the near side bank leaving steep drops to the river. After a downstream walk I found a place where I could clamber down and set about Euro Nymphing my way back upstream. This is a method I’m still getting to grips with and I spent a lot of time freeing my flies from the bottom. However one cast wasn’t the bottom as it moved, turned out to be a trout of approx 1 lb.
The rest of the fish were caught swinging heavy nymphs, we saw the odd fly and the odd rise but nothing sustained. The fish we’re hungry mind , we both commented on how hard they hit the flies.
A lovely spring day, seemed to have dodged the rain for once.
Thanks to the land owner for moving the gate much further down the hill allowing for a much easier exit.

Trickle hatch on LDOs from late morning with a reasonable flurry of March brows late on. A few rises here and there but generally the fish were not very switched on. Quite a chilly downstream wind had turned them off I think. Lovely to be on the water again though. A few canoes coming through the pools.

5 wild brown trout caught on PTN fished upstream. Water was lower than expected for this time of year (the reservoir was high so clearly that required to be raised before releasing more water to the river) so it was hard work. Biggest was around 1lb.
