Lovely day, light cloud and water at a good hight. Did not see any fish rising all day, despite a couple of decent hatches. Managed a couple of small trout towards the top of the beat and one of about 1.5lb in the middle part of beat. The last one looked like it had been attacked by something (see photo) a while back but seemed fine now. All in all a really nice day, thanks WUF.

Clear skies and bright sunshine all day made for a pleasantly warm day if you could get out of the wind, which was very strong and gusting upriver. There was a small hatch around midday, but no fish rose to them. We think the brightness drove them deeper and all our takes came on weighted nymphs in the deeper pools. Four fit and healthy trout up to about 10" were released.

MB sporadic hatches from 12:30 to 15:00. Cold ds wind but the fish were rising at two spots. Good dry fly fun

We were greeted by a full river but thankfully clear.
Morning session produced 1 fish for John but only a pull for me. Around 1 pm large dark olives started to hatch which bought many trout to the surface. I caught a couple of nice fish up to a pound but covered many and found them hard to tempt. March Brown spider and and iron blue were the successful flies. In hindsight I think the may have been taking the emerging fly as didn't see any Duns being taken. The hatch petered out about 2.30 and that was it for the day. I had previously tried French Nymphing to no avail , I'm determined to break my duck on this method but no joy yet.
John persevered with nymphs but had one of those days when he was broken 3 times.
It was wonderful to be back on the river in typical spring conditions and casting to rising fish always gets me going, being successful with a home tied fly was the icing on the cake. Thanks so much WUF.

A cold downstream wind for most of the day. A very sparse hatch of LDOs that didn't last but fish did target them and we had some sport on the dries. Spiders also accounted for some fish. Best fish was around 2lbs, most others in the 8-12 inches bracket. Great to be back on the water!

Lots of trout rising and jumping but tricky to tempt in the still hot conditions.

Sad seeing a sewage outfall pipe with very smelly discharge going straight into the river. Was only thing that detracted from the beat.
