Fine day; easterly breeze eddying around the hill behind, veering alternately up and down the lake; very few rises. Fished 2 1/2 hour sessions: floating line; Hopper, Heul y Gwynt, GRHE on point. Most took HyG; 1 took Hopper on the top; 1 foul hooked on GRHE on point. First time on Llyn Bugeilin. Beautiful, memorable day!

Another fun day at this idyllic location , arrived at half eleven , with a brisk easterly wind , and bright sunny conditions . The wind later in the day becoming very squally and changing directions regularly . Initially I fished a team of two wets , my home tied Clan Chief and bloody butcher , having four good takes , and four beautifully marked black finned brownies to the net , quickly admired and then slipped back into their home . Later on in the day , rises were steady in the boathouse bay , so tied on a single Coch y Bonddu dry , and had three splashy hits too it , the first two missed !!!!!! Contacting with the third , and back in the swing , did manage another two on the top . As the day progressed , the wind direction changed several times , making fly presentation hard going , so opted for the wets again , this time ,a flashback PTN and corixa pattern further down the Western side of the Llyn , having regular nips to the flies , and managing to net another three brownies . At half six , it was time to call it a day with ten feisty black finned brownies caught and returned . As usual great fun and the wide open space does wonders for your well being !!!!! Shall head down again very sooooooooooooooon !!!!!!!!!!!
An interesting paragraph about Llyn Bugeilyn , written by Frank Ward , THE LAKES OF WALES , ( 1931). . . . . . . . . . . . . .
" The Sheperds Pool " lies , dreary and remote , on a desolate tract of elevated moorland north of Plynlimmon , and 7 miles south-east from Machynlleth. The mountain views on the ascent to this lake are very fine. It is boggy land around and the water is peaty , but holds many fine trout . One of 4 3/4 lb . Was taken here in June , 1929 , on a Wickhams Fancy , fished dry , with a x4 cast . Sporting rights are held by Mr. J. M. Howell, and fishing is private .

Arrived at 9am. A strong breeze but no rain forecast so I was optimistic of a good day and I had a cracker. After recently purchasing George Barron's new book'At the end of the line' (excellent book and my new Bible)I tied a few flies last night for today's trip. The first cast consisted of a yellow tailed Bibio (12)on point and aJoey 2 butt(14) on dropper fished with a slow retrieve on a floating line and hover leader. Both taking fish instantly and the 3rd and 4th fish came in together !! Took a dozen in the first 3 hrs and then changed tactics as a few rises were spotted in the waves. Had 1 on a Sedgehog then all quiet so retuned to the Joey 2 butt to move me off 13 and then decided to head for home with a big smile on my face after no. 14 came to hand.
Great place and lovely aggressive trout with only a Canada Goose on eggs for company
Thanks WUF

Well the love affair continues . . . . . Bugeilyn greeted me with a sunny glimmer and a brisk Northerly breeze at midday . She's top of my wild stillwaters , closely followed by Llyn Adar , Gwgia, and Llyn Teifi and today was a great sporting day . I started off on the western banks half way down , fishing a variety of small home tied traditional wets , having three good takes from this area , and quickly releasing three beautifully marked brownies , between eight and ten inches . I moved up to the lone pine tree changing tactics , the team of two being my own flashback GRHE , and butcher on the dropper, again hitting into several lovely fish , quickly admired and returned . For fun I'd brought along my seven foot , three weight spilt cane rod , made for me by a fabulous chap from up Oswestry , Sid Diggory .It was great to rig up a couple of tiny nymphs and catch a couple of hard fighting wild brownies with it , superb , the split cane rod seems to come alive , awesome !!!!!. I completed the day by fishing in the boathouse bay , tying on a single small sedge pattern on a long tapered leader , and had two lovely takes , and two missed ones as well !!!!!!! Wild Wales fishing at its best , and with eleven black finned beauties caught and returned , it almost seemed a shame to pack up at half six , ahhhhh well hopefully head down to this jewel in May , which spookily enough is next week ha ha !!!

Great to be back on Bugueilin, weather OK, bit windy blowing across from right to left made fishing difficult along left bank. Easier casting further up where I had first few fish. Made way round lake, casting much better having knocked the rust off. Still missed and lost as many as caught. Last fish in boathouse bay, started with Mallard and claret then switched to Bilbio caught on both. Very nice way to start season.
