There was very little breeze today and further down the west bank towards the visitor area and the dam I found very little access. I had decided to pack up before two o'clock. Metcheck had been right about the very low wind speeds. Ah well.

With the water level at capacity fishable bank stretches were at a premium, a situation not helped by the unchecked growth on the west bank towards the head of the lake, a once excellent area now rapidly becoming a jungle. Here in mid-afternoon while there was a bit of decent, reachable ripple for a short while I connected with a deep-bodied 18" hen fish following a much smaller capture in a flat calm at midday on the short fishable part of the far bank. Before teatime the breeze had slackened and it never returned! The big new house high on the east bank looks impressive. Do they offer B&B?

Had planned to fish the Usk but a forecast of heavy rain and strong winds forced a last minute change to the Talybont Reservoir. Weather was atrocious but what a lovely place! Lost 1 decent fish and that was that. Gave up when the rain became torrential.

2 brown trout 14oz - 1lb each. One other released at long range. All fish from the road side on a very windy day. Floating line size 12 bibio. Fishing 09:30 - 15:00 and then the heavy rain got the better of me. Seen one trout rise and had four taps/bites all day. Tough going in the strong wind. Great conditioned trout and a picturesque place to fish. Never seen anyone else all day.
