First time I've fished this lovely lake. I didn't expect these grown-on wild fish to be easy, and I was right about that. When the perfect SW breeze finally fell away at dusk you could see countless fish dimpling the lake, and it was clear that they know exactly how far anglers can cast! I took a small fish (returned) on a droppered dry dabbler near the car park, my only take in a 3-hour evening session. No rise to speak of, just a few very small chironomids. Will be back, but next time I'll concentrate on the less fished areas.

Great place! Hopefully the wild trout population will hold up despite the attentions of a full house of FEBs (herons, cormorants, goosanders and egrets) but I'd also echo the comments of another of this year's fishermen who suggested designating Talybont as a C&R fishery. Now that stocking has stopped, lots of fishermen on 6-fish tickets (legacy of a stocked fishery?)could make a big dent in the population of interestingly-sized wild trout in this lake. (NB all fish caught today were carefully returned).

Lovely place looked brilliant all week. Day booked when I could get signal then gale force winds on day put stop to anything. Was disgusted to see a group of course fishermen huddled in shelters. Who knows how many fish they have taken!!! Won't be back would rather get up check weather and buy ticket from a machine.

Lovely evening in lovely surroundings... very hard work catching but very rewarding. Six fin perfect fighting fit browns on one of my own pheasant tail variants, I found it very hard to match the hatch in the evening. All of my 'dry' offerings were rejected apart from one a small dark hopper variant which didn't look anything like the hatch! The best fish around 18" fell to the nymph in the small bay in front of the bird hut just over half the way up the east side of the lake. I think I had the entire 280 acres to myself so no shortage of places to stop and cast but the water table still high for the time of year so I did on occasion struggle with the back cast. All fish safely returned!

One brown trout of about one and a half pounds taken on a sinking line using a bead head nymph near the bridge pillars/stream inlet. Saw/heard many surface takes but only managed a single fish during separate sessions of about two hours each per day.

Had an excellent day at this gem of a lake, was a fairly strong wind when I turned up about midday, with intermittent rain, fished the roadside shore, in two various locations, and managed to catch two cracking brownies, both about twelve inches in length. One took my home tied clan chief variant, the other my Bibio variant, good solid takes, and superb fish, both released back into the lake. Did have a few nervous plucks on the flies in the latter part of the day, but due to the incoming heavy rain, called it a day about sevenish. Superb location, shall be back very soon, hoping that we get some kind of a summer, and I can fish some dry fly patterns.
