Arrived at 5pm to the sound of large fish splashes. Most activity seen around Cadora pool until later in the evening where the cockpit showed promise. Despite all efforts with fly and spinner no fish were taken. First time to this beat and would return though the advice about wading Cadora pool was somewhat inaccurate, far too deep to wade and ultimately reach the fish. Thank you WUF again though for a great service!

Fished from 0900 to 1300hrs, saw no end of salmon coming through as before, but at 1230hrs a 15lb (approx) fresh cock salmon took an interest in my guest for the day, Barry Odger's floating line with a tiny (size 16) silver stoat (without a blue hackle) on the end.
It fought hard and was a beautiful fresh fish.
So; Wye 1 We 3 at the end of the third day. I had to leave early to make it back home for a special family meal to continue celebrating Father's Day, and the smile was already well entrenched when I got there.
A very picturesque part of the river too.
I have put the cormorants spotted on www.cormorantwatch.org and would encourage other fisherfolk to do the same.

Fished it all day from 0630 to 2000hrs, saw no end of salmon coming through as before, but at 0750hrs I caught a 20lb (approx) fresh hen salmon on a a sink tip with a a tiny silver stoat with a blue hackle.
It went on rocket runs and was undoubtedly my most exhilarating fishing experience to date.
At about 1100hrs I caught a 7lb hen on the same fly. Both were splendid fresh silver fish.
So; Wye 1 Me 2 at the end of the second day AND I had the beat booked for a further day...

Fished it all day from 0630 to 2000hrs, saw no end of salmon coming through but none investigated my fly. I didn't know then what I later learned in the friendly Bell Inn where I stayed and dined for a few nights.
Apparently, I needed a sink tip and a small sparse fly, ie a tiny silver stoat preferably with a little blue hackle. I also needed to be fishing two hours before the tide at Chepstow.
So; Wye 1 Me 0 at the end of the first day. BUT I had the beat booked for a further two days...

There were certainly a few salmon showing. The nearest I got was one actually coming out of the water to take a red flying c as I was just lifting to recast (top end of Cadora). I've never had it before - it got the heart racing but unfortunately it was all so sudden it broke the line so, nothing to show for it.
