River quite high (1.7 and falling) fairly coloured - due to height of water there weren't too many spots where you could (safely) access the water but I found a spot on little run. I am more or less a novice and was treating the day as a spot of casting practice more than anything else. To my amazement after approx 10 minutes I hooked a fish on an Ally's Shrimp. After a superb fight I landed him - a cock fish of 32". For the rest of the day I only had one pluck further downstream, but needless to say was overjoyed with my first trip to the Wye - I will be back!

After flogging the middle Usk all season again, with only one grilse to show for it, it was nice to have a bit of luck today on my first visit to Upper Bigsweir.
A slightly coloured cock 14lb and a clean hen around 10 1/2 lb, both on a home tied shrimp fly masquerading as an Usk Grub. Water low and clear so was not expecting too much but wanted what may be a final fling this season with Swansea entering lockdown tomorrow. Many thanks to top man ghillie Nathan.
