My first visit to the Wye and it certainly didn't disappoint! River quite coloured and pacy. All fish came from two rod lengths out from the first accessible swim. Used Krill flavour throughout my ground bait to my hook bait - a grateful nod towards Martin Bowler - thank you.

Arrived on the river around 08:00 and walked the bank. I had brought my wife along on only her second outing and so we needed an easily accessible swim without an excessively steep bank. That was no trouble. It was a glorious morning and went on to become a little too warm and bright, however we had a great day fishing a hair rig below a swim feeder on pellets. The river was in good flow and colour following a good night's rain a night or two prior. This made it weed catch a regular occurrence but we persevered and banked two lovely looking chub both around 4lbs and a 6lb barbel. Saw plenty of fish rising and splashing around, some of these obviously salmon. Was also smashed up by what must have been a pike as it went straight through my tackle after a good solid bite and first run. Not a Wye belter of a day in terms of catch but it was a very pleasant day and a secluded spot without interruption from canoes. Finished at 7.00pm.

Not our day. No fish landed unfortunately. River looked really good. Don't know what we did wrong but guess that's fishing sometimes. Spotted 2 otters along the stretch and a pair of kingfishers.
Saw plenty of Salmon jumping.

A hard days fishing on a river that had risen slightly overnight from the previous days rain. Lots of weed and debris coming down but the colour was good. Starting at the top of the beat floatfishing with corn, a method usually good for some chub and an odd barbel or two produced not a single bite. Another hour on the feeder produced the same result.
I then moved down river trying as many swims as I could safely fish with the same result until close to the wood where I managed 3 chub, the best about 3 pounds. A frustrating day as there was a lot of fish jumping and although some were salmon many I think were chub.
it is a lovely quiet beat, possibly the quietest I have fished on the Wye but there did seem to be a lot of cormorant activity. I scared off 3 birds when I arrived and all day several birds were seen to land on the water to fish. Possibly the lack of people around encourages the birds on this beat? Canoe traffic was very light and spasmodic.

Terrible weather - high winds and heavy showers, but hoping it would be better fishing rather than high sunshine all day.
Was not to be. Fishing was slow with just two chub to 3.5 on open ended feeder, 4ft hooks length and pellet. Both fish came during the evening with a cast well down the swim.
Lots of salmon jumping which was great to see. Secluded beat, boat the traffic not an issue and everyone was very polite. Feel this stretch would be better with roving approach, but the banks are very steep in places, so recommend always fishing with a buddy here and within earshot.

Arrived around 5:30am to a beautiful Wye misty morning. Had decided to fish the croy at the far end of the beat first then work my way back during the day. Walked down the "mountain" to the River and all the way to the croy swim then discovered I'd left my bait in the car so had the pleasure of doing it all again! 3 chub in the morning before 10:00am. Two on the stick and pin and one on feeder/pellet. Nothing from the next two swims and I was back in the first field by 3pm. Afternoon was incredibly hot and not surprisingly uneventful. Fish started feeding around 7pm and a further 8 chub (and a very greedy Gudgeon!!!) followed to straight lead and loose fed pellet at about half way across. Another great day on the river although the lack of Barbel was a disappointment.
Canoe traffic was reasonably bearable but three Canoes strapped together with an outboard motor on the back was taking the "proverbial" and tested my patience to the extreme!!!

The river was clearing and also dropping throughout the day, the walk down the track was challenging, however not as much as the return journey up hill, travel light for this venue. All fish caught on feeder and pellets, largest Barbel was 7lb, largest chub was 4lb, thank you WUF for having this beat available.
