A nice day's fishing in good conditions. Nice colour in the river and rising slightly throughout the day. Between two anglers we caught eight barbel and numerous small chub. The average size of the barbel was smallish but it was good sport and I would book it again.
My fishing partner had an unfortunate accident in that his rod and reel were both pulled into the river by a passing tree branch while he reached into his bag for his flask. If anyone happens to turn up a Korum Neoteric rod + Shimano Baitrunner he would be very happy to be re-acquainted with them.

I had hoped the drop in levels would continue but the gauge at Ross, http://www.gaugemap.co.uk/#!Detail/801/820 was showing 0.725 and this was about 0.25 higher than ideal for safe wading access to the better areas. Oh well we all have to blank sometimes, but I do believe this is my first here in many a year!
Anyway, not too much in the way of debris coming down so everyone should be able to fish, game/coarse, without any trouble for a while yet.
Bank maintenance on this beat is excellent but an easier egress point lower down on right bank, for those who are wading, would be most welcome as thrashing back upstream is exhausting! Or am I just getting old ?

Standing on Foy Bridge bracing a cold northerly wind staring down at a fast moving river was not exactly what we were hoping for in mid September when we booked the beat a few months ago....but fishing the Wye often presents challenges and quite clearly this was going to be one of them.
Heavy feeder was the only real option and we were delighted to catch 3 Barbel and 3 Chub between us which exceeded our limited expectations.
It was also a pleasure to meet the owner of the beat Charles who clearly makes the effort to maintain this delightful venue and we look forward to visiting it again soon.

With 3ft of extra water, being almost dead straight Foy Bridge is a difficult beat to fish. Realistically there was only one swim that even looked fishable, luckily I was the only person booked for the day.
Arrived at around 8am, Chub were active from the start with one caught and two lost to inside line snags (probably on the bank in normal conditions), but catching in such a small area meant that the fish soon turned off. Fed the swim had a coffee and started again (this was to be the way all day) First Barbel arrived about 11am (5lbs 2oz) quickly followed by another which was lost mid stream. Another feed and break resulted in another 2 Chub and the biggest Babel (7lbs 14oz) of the day at around 3pm (and another lost when the hook straitened!) One more smallish Barbel (approx 3lbs) caught as the light was fading.
The river dropped during the day but not enough to reveal any more swims, and some enormous "sticks" floated by all day.
Smaller baits seemed to be the order of the day, 8mm pellet or two grains sweetcorn fished on the inside line along the crease.
