River very low and clear and coupled with hot and bright weather, made conditions far from ideal. Unfortunately only one barbel between the two of us, along with a dozen or so chub.

This venue is ideal for anglers not wanting to route march 2 miles to get to the river, good parking easy to find and swims with steps or easy access I make these points as information to new anglers. River low and clear started on the float catching chub to 2 1/2 lb waiting for late afternoon, Barbel did not disappoint, not the biggest, 3 between 5 and 6lb but fought well. If more water and cloud cover who knows a favourite venue for me
but I just love barbel and the 3ft twitch, back in September I hope.

A short stretch of water with reasonable access to a handful of swims. The river was pushing through quite quickly and a nice chocolate brown, but that didn't put off the barbel ranging from 7lb to 9lb who fed regularly through the day. Feeder tactics with smelly baits did the business.

The weather was bright and sunny and the river was about a foot higher than when we fished this stretch around the same time last year. Between the two of us we had 40 chub in the 2-5 pound range and 2 barbel that were about 5 pounds each. Most of the fish were taken on the float (waggler) on either 8mm pellets or bread mainly from swims on the left bank, the bottom two swims producing the majority of the fish. The first swim below the bridge on the right bank did produce one of the barbel and 3 chub.

Arrived at 10.20 am and chose second swim over the bridge. Quite taken back as to why this swim has had another bank access cut to it and a area of aprx 5mx3m flattened!!! And reeds lent towards river? Quite dodgy as it's hard to judge where waters edge actually is plus the reeds are quite tangley and slippery!!
Anyway, fed some pellet by hand along with corn. Barbel from the off and twice never had time to flick bait runner on. Good strong fish ranging from 1.1/2 lbs to 7-8 lbs. Continuous hand feeding corn seemed to work (had to because dropped my baiting needle... fell through reeds!!), 2 grains direct to size 10 barbless. Chublets were smashing the bait every cast so I switched to trotting gear for some good fun laying on way over depth and inching it through. This also produced some real nice clean dace and two wild brown trout. Sport slowed around 4-30pm which seems the norm for me at this venue. Had a chat to the beat owner on my way out and left feeling well happy with a great day on a very productive section of this super river.
Owner Note : We write to advise that we very much appreciate constructive feedback, and wish to reassure Anglers that we regularly maintain the access to all swims on our Beat and the matter of the flattened / overhanging weeds at the second swim over the bridge has been dealt with, and we are very grateful to the Angler concerned for bringing this matter to our attention.
