Managed to find a few sheltered areas out of the wind including an expedition into the jungle at the top of the beat. Tight up there for casting but floated a large pheasant tail nymph down a glide to pickup a chubby and hard fighting 10 inch WBT. Picked up 3 others and a grayling on a mixture of nymph and mayfly.

Nice beat in lovely setting, fished from 7 until 2 with a few rises in the morning before all went quiet.

Good fun on a mayfly with several rises and fish hooked and lost. The bottom weir pool, despite it being teeming with flies and mayflies, seemed devoid of fish with nothing rising whatsoever, although on my second approach to it what appeared to be a family of goosanders in the distance where scattering away.

We were determined to have an evening on this beat in Mayfly time having already fished it earlier in the season. Looking at the webcams the Lugg system was possibly the only part of the catchment fishable on the day and the forecast predicted the houlie that had been blowing for the last 24 hours might subside - well it didn't until about 9.30! But that didn't stop a very pleasant couple of hours evening fishing. No visible hatch or rises early on and a significant chop on the river so minor tactics were implemented - mayfly skating! And very effective too in the shallower runs at the top of pools - 3 nice fish to 14" on this tactic and twice as many lost as the fly was usually downstream at the take. JB then homed in on his favourite run at last knockings - 10.00! - to take two more 14" ers on conventional drifting fly tactics. So that was 5 to hand on the evening - well worth the drive over. Water voles for company too and the full moon with spectacular moonbeams through the clouds on the drive home added to the trip. Many thanks to Wendy in the office for last minute booking - and the web cams along with the rainfall radar web site do make it possible to work out what is fishable with a degree of certainty.

Slow start on the morning, not much showing at all, come the afternoon was alive with fish feeding on the mayfly .....

The river was at 1ft on the webcam with a little colour. The weather was overcast and cool (14 degrees) with a chilly breeze. The was a succession of hatches throughout the day, with a late afternoon mayfly hatch finally bringing the trout to the surface. Most fish were caught on nymph, but some were on dry mayfly.
The fishing was good, but there was no sign of the larger grayling or trout. The resident otter and mink will surely take their toll on this small stream, especially since the fish are trapped between the two weirs during the summer months.

Had a bad start to the day - broke my rod. After cutting it and losing 6" off the length was able to fish. River was low and clear, plenty of fly life hatching. Saw plenty of fish but could not get anywhere near them. A few splashes. Landed just one grayling of 18" but the battery was low in my phone so it wouldn't take a photo!!! Very happy as first grayling I've evey caught. Still new to this river fly lark.

A cloudy and mild day, plenty of hatches and fish rising. A gusty wind made casting tricky on the mid-section, but the woodland sections at either end of the beat offered more shelter and have a secluded feel to them. They take a bit of persistence to get to some parts, but it's well worth it for the scenery and tranquility.
Only one trout caught by this amateur fly fisher, but I reckon a more experienced caster could have caught a sack full. Had a fantastic time, and didn't see another soul all afternoon!

River slightly coloured and dropping. Plenty of insect life and a few fish rising although mostly "oncers". Winkled our 3 lovely fish between 10 and 13 inches between us - an excellent afternoon's fishing, thank you. (Fish pic to follow on seperate email). Spooked a cormorant off the river - and when the beat paperwork says access to wooded areas isn't easy it certainly means it!!!!
