Foggy, frosty start turned into a bright sunny day. Fishing was a little slow but we managed a few fish late afternoon into dusk. All fish came to feeder tactics with meat and boilie hook baits. Looking forward to our return in the summer to this great beat.

First visit to this stretch. Thought I'd start at one end and work my way through the beat until I found the fish. Lots of well built swims on the beat, most with steps etc. unfortunately I started at the wrong end and didn't find fish until well into the afternoon. Had 5 chub from 3-5lb on feeder, and a 5lb barbel finally joined the party as it was getting dark. Would fish this beat again, especially as I know where to head now. Sun shining and fantastic scenery, couldn't wish for more.

Cage feeder was the main tactic and baits included pellet, boilies, bread etc. The river was well up and heavy rain the night before didn't help.
A nice section though. Would definitely consider when conditions are more favorable.

4 Chub on bread. Whilst fishing the Orchard swim an Otter appeared under the rod tip. They seem to be everywhere. Would this be the same Otter that has been seen at Lower Cannon Bridge? How long of a stretch do they patrol? Otters, Cormorants and Crap weather!

9 Chub on bread pellet and cheese paste. River rose 18" during the afternoon so I called it a day at 3.30pm. Way to many leaves in the river even a rod length out.

The river was low and extremely clear, which made things a little difficult. M had a chub early on in the session but that's all we got in the morning. A change of swim produced a barbel for M. We then went back to the orchard swim and M managed to wrestle out a 13lb crocodile on a float fished dead-bait. A few more chub were banked just before dark, I managed a lovely 4lber on my last cast. Good angling by M, I definitely could have caught a few barbel but I was just happy making bacon sandwiches and cups of tea. I thought I better let him win this time, he was still a little upset about the hammering I gave him on the last visit.

Based on the description of the water, (deeper lower sections etc), my son and I booked for a days piking. The parking was easy to find but I would not attempt the entrance to the middle section in the orchard unless you have a 4x4 as even though it was dry at the time the track has been churned up by tractors. As to the fishing, sufficient to say that it is not a pike water. There are very few deeper areas and the lower section below the wood is just a straight glide. There is one decent peg opposite the orchard car park but, in our opinion, that just about sums the fishery up as a pike venue. At £20 a ticket we made a very expensive mistake!

Difficult conditions on a fairly high river. Only really possible to fish slacks in the margins. 1 out of season trout (12 oz) and 1 chub (3lb) caught on maggot feeder + 1 pike (14lb) on dead bait. We stayed at 'Charades' in Southbank Road, Hereford, which was perfect for our needs (recommended).

Fished about four swims in the first field. With the river pushing through we managed to catch a couple of barbel, both about 6lbs on pellets and garlic spam. Lost one chub before it got to the net. Nice place to fish with plenty of swims, will be back.
