First time fishing here and had Difficulty locating the beat. Conditions blustery (fished on the lower stretch near the cottage) and had a very disappointing day with no fish, not even a single bite. Fished ledger with all kinds of pellets and boilies. Advice appreciated for future excursions to this stretch of water.

Just the one pike 10lb 2oz. No luck with barbel or chub. We both felt description of lower beat was poor.

Good start to the day on the lower part of the of the beat, but as the day went on the flow increased considerably as did the amount of weed and debris coming through, which made fishing very difficult. Enjoyable day though.

Water very low and clear made fishing difficult. Chub caught in shallow water around dusk. No sign of barbel despite trying several of the deeper swims in the cattle-grazed field. Made the mistake of carrying my tackle through the wood at the top end of the beat. The path through the wood was hazardous and after a long walk without finding any swims, I gave up. I still do not know if there are any fishable swims in the wooded section, but if there are they are a VERY long walk along trecherous terrain. This could be made clearer on the beat description.

Top and bottom ends of this stretch need some work to them to open up access. Despite a low clear river bites came right from the off. Moved swims a bit but all the barbel came from one particular spot, although I did get chub on float fished corn and bread from other swims.

We arrived to find the river very low and clear and with unseasonably warm conditions and knew it was going to be tough!
Saturday proved the best day with some cloud cover. Meagre pickings in the morning and day but a feeding frenzy ensued as the light dwindled.
We finished with 18 barbel and 11 chub, which was pretty damn good given the conditions.
Most fish were taken from the field swim above the parking on a mixture of pellets and boillies or a combo of the two. The best anglers of our group managed to catch in bright daylight and only the very best from the lower reaches of the beat where real class was needed to extract fish from between the trees.
All of the troup lost big fish (some through poor reel management) and some managed to catch on another's rod which was fine the first time around but when it happened again the rod had to be wrestled from a reluctant angler who was hell bent on poaching and glory-justice prevailed!
Great weekend had by all.
Biggest fish, 8lb 5oz - good arrows!
Thanks again to the Foundation, we will return!

Fishing was difficult, rained all day. 4 chub caught under nearside cover, all in beautiful nick with the biggest 5lb. All fell to feeder tactics, pellet and hemp. Trout fell to bronze maggot on trotting stickfloat. Lovely stretch of river although banks became precarious the wetter it got. Cattle were bit of a pain.
