Nice to be back on Sugwas Court, this is are second trip to this beat. Fishing was hard with bright sun shine and a low clear river, conditions weren't the best. Walked and fished the whole beat trying to locate fish. Managed to catch two 4lb chub and a pristine 6lb barbel. We had a great day, just wish conditions were a little better and we got amongst them.
Many thanks to WUF.

Our first time on this beat, so a bit of time was spent walking around looking for likely spots. The river looked low, so most of our time was spent on the top part of the beat. The best bite time by far was 8pm onwards, as the middle of the day was very hot and bright.

Nice beat for a bit of exploring so we fished lots of swims. Best feeding time was 5pm to 8pm. Wildlife today, a quite friendly mink running past my feet.
Still up there as one of my favourite beats.

Bright sunny day at Sugwas with low water conditions. Chub were on and off throughout the day but the Barbel were not interested all day, even at dusk they refused to bite.

After arriving after midday we decided to take a walk down the whole stretch. Firstly, parking in the orchard and walking up river to look at possible pegs on the No1 stretch. The upper parts of the stretch are somewhat overgrown and would prove difficult to fish without the use of waders. Saying that, the stretch did have some very promising looking runs.
We opted to get back in the van and drive down to the parking in the lane for the lower stretches. This stretch proved to be more to our angling needs. Plenty of pegs with good flow, pools and cover for daylight fishing. We decided to fish the lower stretch and covered most of the pegs available.
A pellet approach was used on both rods for the day. Opting to start cautiously with a 8mm pellet and PVA bag. This approach brought about instant success with two Barbel above the 9lb mark. The bottom pool producing the smaller of the days catches. Light lose feeding of pellet also brought about good results with the chub often being first on the bait.
In summary, a very good day in wonderful surroundings. A word of caution, the cattle in the field did get a little lively at times during the day so not for the faint hearted.
