Fished Legg Meadow section Mon 4th March to Thurs 7th (inc). It was cold on arrival but Don had confirmed that a couple of barbel had come out over weekend, so I decided to go for barbel and leave the pike rod behind.
On Monday I had a couple of chub and two barbel of 6lbs 1oz and 8lbs 9oz. A very heavy frost on Monday night killed the sport on Tuesday and Weds only produced a single chub of about 4lb that had to be netted promptly to avoid a following mid double pike! Weds night was mild and wet making the high banks treacherous but I found a safe pitch and hunkered down. Had 3 barbel to 8lbs 6oz in a short feeding spell mid afternoon and a single chub as the light faded. Small pellet hookbaits behind a feeder was the tactic.
Not my most productive sessions at Courtfield but given the poor conditions I was very satisfied with result and its always a pleasure to fish this lovely stretch of river and to meet the ever helpful Don.

No fish on fly for Salmon. A beautiful stretch of water. The top section is really only suitable for spinning. The flow picks up speed at the ferry pool and is good for fly all the way to the bottom of the beat. I swapped notes and had a good chat with with O B. Some canoeists arrived early afternoon. Their leader was very polite and held them back until I had finished fishing one stretch. I met Don Macer-Wright the owner who was very helpful and invited me to fish the next beat down river. As always, a great service provided by the Wye & Usk Foundation.

Water running at a nice height. Very cold morning but temperature picked up in afternoon with the sun. Spun the stretch from iron steps down in the morning. The only action was a decent sized (10lb approx) very well mended kelt. Tried the fly on Wyebank in the afternoon but nothing to report.

My first try at barbel fishing. I had a fish of 9lb 8oz
fished middle of river as edges very snaggy, only 1 bite.
River conditions good but banks a bit dodgy. Boilie bait with a few free thrown in.

My Nephew and I were guided by Kenny Parsons and I am pleased to say his deserved 100% record is intact. The river made us work for it but in the last knockings two immaculate upper 6lb Barbel were caught exactly where Kenny said they would be.
Tricky conditions on the river but what a beautiful day and after some great advice the fish turned up in the end. We also returned to the lower wood swim the next day, with the same feeder and pellet tactics and managed to tempt 7 more fish to 9lb 3oz.
Thank for a great weekend Kenny, WUF and the beautiful Wye.

Had a day on the river on Saturday at Courtfield. Unfortunately I blanked, but my partner had 2 x Barbel, best 8 1/4 lb and a small chubb. River in good condition, spoke to the riverkeeper who was very informative and told us that no barbel had come out of there since January.
Will be back in the summer.

Spent the day roving with deadbaits trying all the slacks along the stretch but unfortunately had no runs. The water was freezing with Ice on the line!
Lovely stretch and beautiful surroundings, will be back in the near future.

Plenty of snow on the ground making some swims a bit to risky to fish. Unfortunately a blank with no action to myself and my mates rod. Will try again in the next few weeks.
