Fishing was only possible in Legg Meadow. Level dropped during the day but overnight frost had an effect with only small fish and eels being caught. Not fantastic results but overall a really enjoyable trip. The swims are varied and although some are challenging there are enough to cater for everyone. We can see the potential here. Thanks to Don who had a chat to us every day and gave us useful tips and encouragement.

On Weds 3rd I had just one fish a 8.5 lb barbel on a bookie.
I also fished on 4th and again had just one fish, a 3lb chub on bread flake.
Conditions were difficult with high and fast flowing water but we all enjoyed it. The barbel were in fine condition but did have about a 3 inch groove on both sides just in front of the wrist of the tail. Looked like a healed wound. Could this have been from an otter.
Don the bailiff who came round was most pleasant to talk to and helpful. Would like to go again sometime in easier conditions.

A difficult day on a new stretch for us. River was high, coloured and fast flowing. We found two anglers fishing with two rods each when we arrived, poachers perhaps?
The banks were pretty treacherous due to the rain and not all swims were fish able. I blanked, not a bite all day but my friend had 6 barbel to 10lb 14 oz which was his first double from the Wye.Two more trips to Caradoc booked in the next couple of weeks, hopefully better days to come!

Last day on the Wye, we arrived to the water early and with more confidence than the two previous days blanking efforts. The river was around 2.4 m but was slightly rising until around 4pm. We met Don who was most helpful and was convinced we would catch just down the inside. However after 10 hours we had not had a bite 3 rods, which when people were catching above us and below raised the question what are we doing wrong? We had fed pellet like instructed every ten minutes and hair rigged pellet, the only thing i can think is we were fishing braid which limited how far we could hold bottom, lessons learnt hopefully next year we will meet the river in better condition and have better tactics.
