I arrived late morning after a long drive down and settled into a swim at the bottom end of the meadow just before the woods. It was a quiet afternoon only managing 1 barbel and 1 nice chub in the mid afternoon sun but the better action started from 5.30pm until 9pm when I managed another 6 barbel to 9lbs 10oz and another bonus chub.
I finished with 7 barbel to 9lbs 10oz and 2 chub both over 4lbs all to pellets except one chub which fell to meat as did a very large eel. Thank you to Don as always for his advice and putting me on the fish.
If you haven’t made a visit this is a great stretch of the Wye and I would highly recommend a visit not only for the most excellent fishing but just the beauty of the area. A small piece of heaven on earth my only warning is it won’t only be the barbel who get hooked.

Last day and a bit more cloud cover. I've had an enjoyable day catching 20 Chub over 2lbs with the two biggest at 4lbs 12ozs and 5lbs, plus 3 Barbel to 8lbs. P has fished the waterworks end of the meadow for a 6lb Barbel and 2 Chub to 4lbs 2ozs. A has caught 2 Barbel to 7lbs 14ozs sharing the last swim on the meadow with J who had 3 Barbel to 7lbs 3ozs. Bait and tactics the same. Canoe traffic very heavy today, 99.9% are fine but one or two today were a pain, it's incredible how such well spoken people can be so bad mannered!! All in all we've throughly enjoyed ourselves. Restrictions on our accomodation meant we were fishing at the least productive times of the day but we still all caught Barbel every day we fished. Many thanks to the Wye & Usk Foundation and particularly Don who was his usual helpful and accomodating self, a true gent!

A,J and K are fishing Wyebank this morning. P after problems with his car and the excessive heat of yesterday has decided to have a rest but has helped me into a swim in the woods to get a rest from the sun as it's shady all day here. Still very slippery but only fell over once! I had 4 Barbel to 7lbs, one about 2lbs which is nice to see plus 1 Chub. After a quietish morning on Wyebank A,J and K returned to Courtfield where J had a 7lbs 8oz fish and a Chub of 4lbs 5ozs, A 2 Barbel to 7lbs and a 3lb Chub, K failed to score but then he is very old! Bait was once again barrel boilies this time wrapped in Hinders blitz paste and feeder fished with 4mm feed pellet and Hinders Barbel groundbait. Big increase in canoe traffic today.

First of 4 days on Courtfield and Wyebank, river still up but dropping and what a change in the weather with clear blue skies and temperatures in the eighties, good for fishing but maybe not for catching. All fished the meadow on Courtfield as Wyebank still up and running and P opened up with an 8lb Barbel from the middle of the meadow and went on to catch another fish of a similar size plus two Chub. K followed this with a 8lb 12oz fish from the waterworks end and had another two plus two Chub. Champ on the day though was A 15 yr old son J who with A fished the last swim on the meadow for a cracking fish of 9lbs 4ozs plus a smaller sample. Dad fishing alongside could only manage a 6lb fish plus 2 Chub to 4lbs 8ozs. I wieghed in with 3 Barbel between 6-7lbs from the middle of the meadow, banks still very slippery.

Had two very good days Fishing the Meadow. Almost 50 barbel caught to 10lbs and another of 9lbs 8oz. Plenty of chub with a few 4lbers. Many of the barbel were above 5lbs and there was a good scattering of year classes. The weather did hold and the river did rise but only about 6". Most were caught on pellets. I think all 3 of us went home very happy people. Fish were caught throughout the day.
P and A both had pb's for chub and barbel and couldn't thank Don enough for having a wonderful fishery.
