Baking hot day brought out plenty of kayaks and sent the salmon deep into the pools. The owner, Don, was there at the beginning of the day to show me the beat and highlight the best taking spots. Plenty of great advice and a devoted, passionate river man. Just one fish to report, a two and a half pound barbel on a stoats tail fly.
The deep Courtfield pools had the occasional big salmon showing and I am sure you would have tempted one with a spinner. As I only fished the fly Don kindly let me fish the Wyebank beat which is superb fly water but the bright sunshine only highlighted the beauty of the countryside and the wildlife....there was after all only so much Don could do!

No fish caught. After about an hour canoes started coming down the river and all chance of catching anything disappeared! Don was very useful and helped finding the right lies etc. A lovely place to fish.

A wonderful morning fishing! Birds singing in the warm spring air and a very large, well mended kelt about 11am. Thanks to Don and Adam for the fishing chat.

What a lovely day (for those who dont mind unseasonal weather)! Had a kelt around lunch time from the bottom of the beat and a pike about 8 or 9lb from the wood crib, after casting to a fresh looking fish showing. It did have me fooled for a couple of minutes. Enjoyed this beat again, nice to talk with Don and John the other angler on the beat. Let pray for rain!

I had a lovely day and met up with Don who game me an update.
I saw four fish but didn't catch a salmon; however I did catch a 5.1 lb pike which I released back.

Lots of fish seen, some obviously kelts but not all. Missed 2 good chances, 1 a classic head and shoulders rise of a nice fish. Don was very helpful.

Showed up at first light and fished hard throughout the day rotating between the bottom and wooded sections of Courtfield. River was low and clear with fishing rolling in every pool. Saw one that had the look of a fresh fish about 15lb or so. Fished the spinning rod all day with a FC, cut the "pop can" metal hooks off that usually come with these spinners and put on a proper single hook. In the end had 9 kelts between 8 and 15 pound or so. Didn't hook into a fresh fish today but those kelts kept me busy. Beautiful day and with those single hooks makes releasing fish easy. Need some rain to wash the healthy run of kelts out though and push some new ones up the river. As usual Don's the best with advice and locations.
