The welcome rain and level rise said it was a Wye day and with only one beat left with tickets Courtfirld it was. With only 3 swims we I to the wood it did t take long to pick swims. Lovely mild day, 14.9 water temp and a 0.85 river level with nice colour promised a lot. I blanked despite trying lots, PJ had a 7lber but Steve had a great day, only 3 barbel but one was a significant PB of 11.02. Other two were 7 and a banner. Pewt or meat on a gb feeder.

To be honest the fishing was very poor due to the river conditions

Excellent day catching barbel on the float in the only pool with some depth and flow we could find. All fish on the smaller side from sub 1lb to just under 5lb but perfect sized barbel for float tackle.
Really good day considering how low the water levels are, we feared the worst but the Wye, as ever, didn’t disappoint.

Only 4 fishable pegs along the entire beat. Most of the bank unkempt and inaccessible. Water quality poor - thick silk weed covering the entire river bottom. No noticeable flow and river very low. Parking area unmanaged and very overgrown. No fish caught.

Decided last minute to make a wye trip as the weather forecast looks set to get very hot. River appeared in good condition, flowing well with some colour but dropping through the day. Started in Legg Meadow, fished a couple of swims there but all i could find were 3 eels in the first swim and a couple of chub in the second. Around 11.30 i moved down to the woods and whilst the old swim i fondly remember there now appears to be gone, a little further downstream there's an old croy that i could just about get on to. The chub were ravenous down there and i had eight in total. I even had one on the trotting rod. Mostly to meat but also had them on pellet. Couldn't locate any barbel today. The wood swim was really snaggy and i lost a bit of gear down there but most casts produced a bite. Packed up at 3pm, potentially staying later might have seen a better return but had things to do. A very satisfactory day though in beautiful surroundings and nice to see to very contrasting pegs on the river. Thanks to the owner and WUF.

Good days fishing in very hot conditions, 2 barbel came in morning & surprisingly 2 in the mid afternoon heat all caught on meat or pellet, some nice sized chub came via meat & also a couple of eels,
The amount of fishable pegs on the stretch are minimal & the two nearest the water works are the only easily fishable ones, others are steep & trees/bushes could do with trimming back, I wouldn't attempt to fish many of the pegs in wet conditions as they would be pretty dangerous, this is a nice venue but could be a lot better with some work.
