Still some extra water but this dropped during the day, the river lost it's colour and the weather became slightly colder. However, Chris was at it again, landing 4 of the barbel (including another near double at 9.13), As on the previous day, all fish were caught on pellet (one chub was over 5lbs).
Well done to Chris who accounted for 20 of the 26 barbel landed during the 4 days-not sure what that says about us 2 other also rans-we'll try harder next year!!
As always (this is our 5th annual trip) a very enjoyable few days spent in this beautiful area-it's good to catch fish, but it's great just being here. Hope to catch up with you next year Don!

It was a shock to see that the river level had risen considerably overnight as there had been very little rain locally. Weather humid, water coloured and fast flowing, but without the barrage of debris that we experienced on Monday. All fish caught on pellet and included 2 barbel doubles (10.7 and 10.2) and chub to 4.6. One of our contingent (Chris) accounted for all of the fish except the 10.2.-what a day for the boy!

Level and flow had returned to "normal" overnight and with very little debris this made for much friendlier fishing conditions. The 6 barbel (one double-10.10) came to pellet and all of the others to hair-rigged meat.

Water level rose considerably during the day and the strong flow and constant stream of debris made for difficult fishing conditions. These improved slightly in the late afternoon when the barrage of weed etc abated. 2 of the barbel (one of 9.5lbs) caught on meat (on the hair) and all other fish on pellet. Everything considered, a good result.

Did not fish due to forecast of heavy rain, didn't want to risk the slippery banks with my 75 year old dad. Thanks WUF and Don for a great fishery. No more days booked now for the rest of the season but might try and squeeze one in during October and again in March.

Three rods fished the bottom area of the beat by the metal steps. Had a slightly later start than really ideal, though a quick chat with the other two rods booked on in the wood revealed that no early success had been enjoyed. One rod in our group managed an eel on feeder fished maggots and another tempted a succession of bleak and minnows whilst trotting, but anything more substantial was conspicuous by it's absence. Then the canoes came, loads of em.... so we ended up leaving around lunchtime to head back to Oxfordshire. We all realised that there could have been a better chance of a fish or two at dusk, but we didn't have the staying power. Never mind, there's always next time.
