Fished for salmon with John Lewis. Water colour and height perfect for spinning at .77m.
John hooked and landed a 10lb hen fish from the sill above the rock at 11.50. Nice fresh specimen which was duly unhooked and returned. Took red and copper fc.
John also hooked a trout of 1lb on the same lure at the very bottom of the beat at about 5pm. Fish returned OK
2 other salmon moved in the chine.
I had no luck.

After a lot of effort on Wye, usk and Towy a fish at last. Fish took single hook yellow/silver FC. Cock fish about 12lb in the rock pool which has always been one of my favourite pools on the Usk. Easy release on micro barb single.

Lovely beat, river at its summer low, lots of insect life including a mayfly hatch. One 10 inch brown and four lost. I had trouble presenting my mayfly as it was my first time casting such imitations. I will return to beat as it is an easy place to fish when low.

Fishing too low for salmon so fished evening for trout with a friend. Plenty of mayfly around so fished the woodstream with a mayfly nymph and hooked two fish to threequarter pound each. Ken fished sedge and haresear nymph with no success.
Plenty of rises but no takes for both of us in the last hour on white wulff and spent mayfly patterns which was quite strange. Lovely evening's fishing despite the last hour.
A salmon showed twice at the chine around 7pm. Not a large fish, around 5lb.

Not much happening today , gave this beat a go and was not really impressed plenty of fly on the water midge ,olives, mayfly, yellow may sedges etc and only a few rises decided to nymph and although there was decent flow nothing was happening . all rises were mainly small fish splashing at mayfly. i found this beat quite featureless , will not fish again there is much better with a very healthy population of fish for the same or less money. the single trout was about 8 inches

Arrived mid afternoon with the wind blowing branches off trees and 2 hours without seeing a fish rise, just thinking of giving up as the wind started to ease and a few fish began rising. Had one trout on an emerger, lost another, but the highlight was seeing a Lamprey of about 3 lbs.
I reached through the river and closed my hand around it, nothing for a fraction of a second and then it shot out of the water and kited across the surface downstream, I nearly ended up on my arse but it had me laughing out loud at my own stupidity.
Nice beat that has to be waded, which is tricky in parts.

Very hot and bright made for tricky fishing. Two nice fish of around a pound obliged from below the bridge which is mostly wadeable given the low water and many more were lost/risen mainly on olives and emergers. I could not stay into the evening which was a real pity.

Almost Silly Season evening, but not quite. Weather sunny and warm with light breeze. Started at 16.30 on team of sedge and caddis nymph down woodstream. Had immediate take on sedge but only a 4oz par. Continued down to pick up two more on the sedge at 12oz and 1lb. J had one fish of 12 oz.
J fished subsurface for the rest of evening at the top run, landing 2 nice fish of 1lb each and several other offers.
I fished dry and landed 4 more which fell to size 14 sedge, and later white wulff. Lost another of 2lb plus at the head of the rock on the wulff late on. Temperature dropped to 9 deg by 9 and it all went quiet. Plenty of assorted fly life but only the occasional mayfly, but plenty of yellow may dun. Very enjoyable.
