Arrived at river with 0.86m on gauge and a perfect colour.(rose 6cms and started colouring more in next 6 hrs). After over twenty undaunted visits this year persistence finally paid off with my first salmon, a 12lb cock fish on a yellow/gold Flying C. It was reddening and swam off strongly after release. I'm so thrilled!
I would like to say a big thank you to two Toms, both great company on the river and who impart their wealth of knowledge so freely. Tom Richards (of the WUF} was helpful with my retrieval style and choice of lures and
Tom Hannon showed me the high water lie from which the fish was enticed. Lastly I am so grateful to the WUF for reconnecting this Gwent boy with his angling roots (first cast a fly for trout on the Usk fifty years ago) after over thirty years of living in Wiltshire. You are doing a wonderful job.

Started fishing fly down the Rock pool at 7.30 a.m. River at summer level. At 8.30 on Chine 4 or 5 fish moved. Was wading up to waist high, fishing with intent and fancying my chances. Suddenly I was aware that river was cocoa coloured, up to my armpits and roaring along. Managed to just get out in time, narrowly escaping a good dunking! Fishing then impossible due to floating trees, leaves dead sheep etc. I was unaware that 3/4 inch of rain fell in the Brecon area last night. River rose 18 inches in 4 hrs. Still there's always next year! Thanks to the WUF staff. Until next spring......

2 early mornings and 3 evenings fished. Salmon were spotted by the willow between the Upper Rocks and the Rocks on the wooded bank, at the Rock itself, below the Chine and at the cables downstream of the bridge. Sufficient in number to be fishing with purpose. I enjoyed fishing the Upper Rocks and Rocks with the double handed rod. My casting has improved from the left shoulder, left hand up. Fished for trout on Friday mid morning at Wood Stream, caught 7 small ones lost 1 good trout plus missed a few. If we are having July weather at the end of September, can the season go into November?

A pleasant day's fishing in good conditions thanks to the excellent'wash-off' policy. Couple of salmon seen but none contacted. One brown trout about 1lb to salmon fly plus another similar lost. Certainly a beat with potential, we hope to visit again next season.
As always, excellent service from the office - thank you.

Caught a bright 6lb cock grilse from the Rocks Pool at 9am on a yellow flying C. Water in very good condition nice dropping height and clearing but still weak black tea coloured. Saw another fish below the bridge and had two good knocks as well which didn't stick. Evidently fish moving through. Good day on well kept beat.

Started fishing at 8am (after watching wales beat samoa) with a sinking line and a heavy tube fly. Immediately into a fresh fish of around 8lb which was lost at the net after about 10mins fight in the rock pool. Many fish showing but all went quiet at around 10am. Had to wait until 5pm until the next contact. A good hen fish (returned) taken with a flying condom. A great day on good stretch of river. Thanks Gerry Evans for all the advice. It saved a lot of time and proved productive. I'll certainly fish this beat again

No salmon seen or caught may have been better switching to fly rod for trout.
